Hey Grim the site were I order from (BRS) doesn't carry the GE 6500K daylight bulb. Is a "54W - 48IN Midday Giesemann D&D Powerchrome T5 Bulb" a good substitute or should I just find the GE 6500K daylight bulb? Thanks again for all the help...

Midday is fine. Place it about center with an Actinic White toward the front and one toward the back

ATI Blue Plus
UVL Actinic White
GE Miday Bulb
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus

Does that look ok or is there too many Blue Plus on the back end? Thanks...

T5's and LED

T5's and LED

So , this thread helped me once a time ago decide on what bulbs to go with... maybe it will help again.

So Im thinking of having a tank built that will be 3 feet long by 2 feet wide by 18inches deep....

Im thinking of a 6 bulb T5 fixture with 2 LED (T5 style) bulb strands in it....

The LED's would be Blue's... im not sure the words for them as Im just getting BACK into the hobby after having to take an unwanted break for two years... so help me out.


I dunno if this is a good thread to ask, but is there anyone who knows about combining T5's and LED's?

and the T5's I was thinking of 3 or 4 Blue+(460nm) and 1 or 2 12K's by ATI or Geismann... and 1 or 2 Midday's...

Im wanting that 14K look with a big POP of color without looking like Ive got nothing but moonlights on the tank..

any suggestions would help!
 
Thanks Grim for all the ideas. Can't wait too see these lights over the corals. I also took your advice and installed 3 fans into the canopy. 2 fans bringing in fresh air and 1 fan exiting the hot air. Thanks again...

Hit the DIY section and see. There are a lot of LED's builds there so someone might be able to give you a better idea.
 
Hey guys I have another T5 lighting question!:fun2: lol, I have a 90 gallon with a 6 T5 HO setup. I need to replace all the bulbs and I just purchased 2 yesterday to see if they were worth the $$$. They are the powerchrome bulbs. I got 2 actinic +. Do you think its worth the extra $$$ on these bulbs? Also, what color combo should I do with the rest of the bulbs? I have many soft corals, a true carpet anemone, and I want to get some SPS and a Derasa. I would like the tank to have that glowing look. Thanks!

If those are the Giesemann or D&D lamps they are good. I would use 3 of those, 2 of their Aquablue lamps and one of their Aquaflora lamps if you can get it, otherwise a Midday
 
yea its the D-D. so keep the one's i got also? the 2 actinic + and the 3 you are telling me about? its 6 total bulbs. thanks for the fast reply!
 
Hey Grim, I have a 150 gal with a 6 bulb 80 watt t-5 with offset bulbs. I was going to go with two blue plus, uvl actinic white, blue plus, ge 6500, blue plus, but uvl does not make an 80 watt so what would be a good alternative? I was looking at a Fiji purple, but really don't know what bulb to go with. Also is the order of the bulbs good or is there a different order in which I should put them in. Thanks.

Yep, Fiji. Other than having a blue lamp in front just try to mix things up, don't place a non blue lamp at the front or rear slots.
 
Can't decide between an ati sunpower or the aquamedic ocean light. bulb choice are ATI/ kz/uv What would you suggest. Going between 2 250 watt xm se halides.

I have one more question,

Will I beable to keep anything I want in my tank with a 24x4w t5ho current usa fixture for my 20g? I assume that I could keep any sps, clam and invert in my tank that I choose, am I correct? Thanks! Berg

The 54w Pro Color is impossible to find. I thought I found some, but the company is now saying an extra 2 weeks to get it. I don't think they will find it.

Reefgeek recommended the Fiji Purple as a replacement. What is the big difference with the Fiji, GE 3000k, and the UVL 75/25? If I went Fiji, would you recommend an Aquablue in place of one of the Blue+ or still 3 Blue+ for any of those bulbs?

Yeah, I would dump the stock lamps pretty quick, within a few months or so.

Yeah, Good call on adding an Aquablue with a fiji and 2 Blue Plus.
