what is the difference in using a aquablue lamp versus the KZ new generation lamp??

posted this in the wrong thread earlier sorry

I received My ATI 6x80w :)
I also got the bulbs that Ryan had recommended based on my description of what I was looking for. I have listed them in the order I'm guessing is best to install them. Please let me know if I have it right.

Front:
Blue+
Aqua Blue
Pro Purple
Blue +
Aqua Blue
Blue +

I know I can change it around to see what I like, but I would love to get ir right the first time.

Also what is the best height above a 22" deep tank to mount the fixture? It's going to be a mixed reef, starting with mostly soft and LPS.

Thanks

Move the aquablues to the outside slots so you get Blue Plus in 2 and 5 which are the dusk/dawn curcuit

Grim i am running a 48led setup. 50/50 mix of Royal Blue (450nm) and Cool White(6500k) Im going to add 2 T5's and would like to know what color bulbs to run for coral growth.

Holy S Batman that was fast.

Im going to guess it is safe to over drive the ATI bulbs with an Icecap 430. And does it matter what bulb goes up front and in the rear.

Hi Grim,

I'm just starting out in this hobby and I have the benefit of researching everything without prejudice. I want a mixed tank where I really have the ability to experiment with different options including clams. Based upon cost and space as well as keeping a good bio-load to volume ratio with a few fish I was thinking a 48x20x18 would be a good all round size. I figure 18 height to help with light penetration, maybe that isn't necessary.

I have read hundreds of your posts and ATI seems to be the way to go but the cost will really put a hurting on my budget. I have been researching other options but can't find anything about the Aqua Medic's T5 Ocean Light fixture from you or pretty much anyone anywhere. AquaCave carries them. A 48" 8x54w is $459 and has 4 fans. It seems to be an excellent deal. Does anyone know anything about these fixtures? Cheap ballasts?

Let's see if I can remember a good bulb setup from the top of my head:

Front:
Blue +
Blue +
Fiji Purple
Aqua Blue
Blue +
Aqua Blue
GE Daylight
Blue+

And one more question: In your opinion, what is the best looking lighting method overall between MH, T5, LCD or any combo of such?

Take care

Thanks be to Grim for such an excellent recommendation. Sunpower 48"

Finally have the look I was trying to get in the first place - colors popping but biased a bit on the blue side. Thanks!

Grim-
What is the difference between the the KZ Fiji Purple and the ATI Purple Plus?
I have a 6 lamp T5VHO retro. IC430 and IC660. I was thinking about going back to a combo that had more spectrum as right now I am using this:

BP ATI
BP ATI
ABS ATI
AB Geismann 11K
BP ATI
BP ATI

Would this combo be better:

Front
BP ATI
PP ATI or KZ Fiji Purple
ABS ATI
GE 6500K Day
BP ATI
BP ATI

Grim- As a follow up question(s):
Considering the secon bulb combo:
If I added a 2 bulb HO retro (2 true Actinic03) to my 6 bulb VHO (overdriven) Having 8 bulbs total, would that be too much light? I have a feeling it would be blue as I like it to be but would it be too blue? Would there be a better combo with this setup?

i have a 24" t5 light and im looking to upgrade my tank. i have a 10 gal now and want to know what is the biggest tank i can get. that will fit my light?

Depends on the light fixture you have.

If it is an ATI then you can go bigger. If it is a middle of the road or low end fixture, a 29 gallon is the largest I would go.

Hey Grimm, I'm currently running a 7x54w Constellation with 1 ATI AB Spc, 1 KZ FP, and 5 ATI B+. I'm thinking of swapping out the ATI AB Spc and 1 ATI B+ in replacement for 2 KZ New Gens.

How will the results playout in, color & PAR +/-? Also how would you configure them using the bulbs mentioned above in the 7-bulb Constellation?

hey grim! :wavehand: I have decided to go mainly softie, LPS and I want the 60" 6x80W sunpower fixture. I don't want a whole lot of par since I don't want to burn my coral, but I was thinking of doing maybe 3 aquablue special, 1 blue plus and 2 actinic (or 1 actinic 1 purple). would this be too blue? what combo do you suggest and order?
