My response was not meant to be disrespectful. I understand now where you were coming from. I too miss the T5 expertise from Grim.

You can only say the same thing over and over so many times. At some point new information and ideas need to come in. Thats where Grim came in :(

-How grim...
Hey wait ..... Grim.. what happen to Him??

Not that I know the whole story. But, in short there were disagreements in the high up, Some have been hired else ware. Apparently, some things were not handled with grace. Some nice folks like Grim got caught up in the storm and decided to take a break or post elseware.
Grim has left note that this is the case and he is fine, body and spirit. :)

well that just plain sucks ....I hate when that happens...he will me missed by some......
Do you know what site he is on so I can go there? I need to ask him a question?

Back to your question.
I would lean toward the 4 foot lights. It is only a bit more in cost for 4 4' vs 3 6'. they cover more inches of space. They should easy to get no matter where fickle market trends go.

Not sure which would look better though.

Mixing 11k and actinic/blue should be fine.

Though I would prefer, front to back, blue, 11k, GEday, blue for a saturation of ever good par in T5 available ATM, and a good look as well.

Nope, I think you may find the right grape vine in some of the T5 threads. I don't know him personally.

If anyone can answer this its much appreciated . I have 2 triad ballasts rated for 2 54watt bulbs . Am I gonna run into any problems running 2 39watt bulbs on these ballasts ? Besides shortened lamp life from being overdriven . By may calculations it will be overdriven by 13 watts per bulb .

I am considering replacing my previous plan of using my aquamedic 250watt hqi pendant and 2x55watt pc's in some kind of custom made canopy, with just going with an aqualight t5/mh combo, which comes with 2x29watt Oceanblue T5's and a 250watt hqi. Would the 2x29watt t5's provide as much light as the pc's? I only need this for actinic / blue supplement.

Thanks!

ShiftNation I found Grim on a couple of other boards and asked him a similar question, running a 54 watt bulb with an 80 watt balllast, he said it would over drive the bulb a little not like an Icecap 660 would, shorten the lamp life a little bit, like replacing once a year. So think your idea will work.

Its a prefernce thing for sure. I think most that start with T5 prefer t5 and most who started with vho prefer that. Its a weird look switching either way.

Need help with the Retrofit wiring. Have a Workhorse 5 that has 1 yellow and 4 reds to run 4 24w T5's. I saw the diagram on the Fulham website, but is doesn't make sense to me.

1. How do I wire it? I assume 1 red to 1 end cap for each bulb. But what about the 1 yellow wire?

2. Where can I put the ground wire?

May be dumb questions, but I have never done a retro before and this came with no directions. Help is appreciated.

1. the yellow goes to the other ends of the tubes- opposite the red ones..

2. the ground from the three prong outlet i put on the ballast itself, on a mounting screw

and as far as grim is concerned, most of these questions can easily be answered by those of us that have used t5ho a while....and been on this site following all the t5ho threads they can...

but i do know where grim went...

ballast fixtures at HD, can you use them?

ballast fixtures at HD, can you use them?

After reading many post I have yet to come across an answer to a question that keeps popping in my head.
Can you use the ballast and fixtures commonly found at Home Depot and Lowes for tank lighting, T5 and actinic? If not then why? Can the HD fixtures be modified to work? I used one years ago with an actinic and it seemed to do fine except for the occasional slow startup.
Just curious,
Thanks
