I plan on shading the shrooms. They grow like absolute weeds anyhow. I was thinking of going with the 6. I dong see myself getting into SPS or other high light corals or clams. I have an 18 month old, my money goes there.

I think your zoos and LPS will be very happy you chose the PC fixture. With my T5 I have to shade quite a few of my LPS, and or keep em on the bottom as well as my zoos.

Hopefully I didnt make a mistake by ordering the Orbit 2x40W PC unit.

I really wanted the Tek T5 setup.

Pretty good advice floating around here.

Should I get a 8 X 54watt fixture or a 6 X54watt fixture for my 120? Plan on keeping sofites and lps only. I have a lot of shrooms and polyps.

I plan on order from Seeds Etc. or reefgeek

i agree 6 should do it. the 8 unit might melt some shrooms, and you could run into that even with the 6 bulb unit.

Do you plan on getting into high light corals? If so then maybe go with 8X54. Or start off with 6 then add 2 more later down the road. From what I have read Shrroms don't like T5 lighting might have to keep them in a cave or something to shade them.

my purple/red shrooms do well even at the top of the tank under my t5ho retro.

the only shrooms i cant keep are the green striped ones. those jsut melt away. hairy, red/purple, blue, and watermelons do fine under t5ho

I have red mushrooms, I'll try them lower in the tank. Thanks for the advice everyone. I saved myself over 100 bucks by reading up today. Cheers to Reef central.

oh one last thing, before I order. Reefgeek gives you 3 GE bulbs with your purchase. In order to conteract the yellow, should I get 2 Pure Actinic 03 and 1 aquablue plus.

I know this is a matter of taste, but I prefer the blue over the yellow.

I have a 6 foot tank that I need to light. What do you think, 60" 80 watt bulbs centered, or 36" lights on each side? 60" is as long as they make isn't it?

Well, although someone said that there was some bad reviews on the Coralvue T5 retros I went ahead and ordered them. I couldn't beat the deal I got, even on the ones with the single reflector for 4 lamps. I will let you know my opinion of them when I get them.

I used 60" lamps on my 125 and it worked pretty well. If I had staggered them a tad the light would have looked even end to end. Even without being staggered the light looked even except for the upper corners of the tank.

Do 2 actinic plus and 1 pure actinic. The aquablue is pretty much white. You could order 1 as a spare lamp and try running 2 GE's, 2 Actinic Plus, 1 Pure Actinic and 1 Aquablue.

You didn't get the one with individual reflectors? BLAAAAAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

SHROOMS AND T5's

My Orange shrooms stayed very small under T5's but spread very well. Blue shrooms were fairly big but spread very little. When I switched to halides the orange shroom got bigger, like 3 or 4 times the size they had been. The blues maybe got a tiny bit larger but also started spreading.

my zoos like the full brightness of the t5ho, even at the top. the lps would rather be down lower....

my thought as well

No, I did get the one with individual reflectors. The price I got was better then I could get T5s elsewhere, even the cheap ones without the individual reflectors were priced higher.

I think I am going to wait and see what others think of them first. It isn;t like I run a testing facility, just had a lot of different equipment and a PAR meter. If people think the look is good I'll try some and do the PAR measurment

Yes you do don't lie :eek1: LOL

grim, maybe the movers will "accidentally" break some of your bulbs, and force you to get some of the UVlighting bulbs:lol:
