ok I was going to get the 4 light tek light, and the a friend of mine has a scratch and dent 8 bulb tek light. is this going to be too much? reefgeek has a acrylic sheild that is 34-3/4 X 15-3/8. i assume thats the actual size of the opening? thats no a problem. but on my 50 gallon, 36"X18" tank, I have a acu-c remora hang on that might interfer. whdda ya think? too much?

You don't have to run all the lamps so if it is a good deal why not.

The fixtures dont include lamps.

Hamilton Technology

Stop the press!

Well I recieved my endcaps Hamilton, and was so happy until I went to go mount them on my canopy. Then noticed the only opening is directly under the endcap so there would be no way to mount these flush without punching the wires through the surface in which your mounting otherwise youd have the wires coming from under it and wouldnt get a flush mount. So I had to get my dremel and make an exit path for the wire through the endcap itself.

It turned out very clean and it looks very sweet, but had to warn you guys before you go out and buy some. Only bad thing about it was I wasnt anticipating doing any more DIY than the innitial task at hand, but happy with the results and I still didnt have to pay over 30$ for any stinking standoffs!:p

They look just like IC's, but have a foot w/ 2 holes to be mounted. Heres a pic after I hooked em up.So they would work if you planned on drilling through the surface your mounting, or making a fixture where the wireing is within and under the endcaps themselves, or do like I did and drill into the wiring channel ;)

alright so if i get the 4 bulb what bulb combo should i get? what is best for the corals? i like the like 14k mh look; not to blue but not to white

I can't get that 6th bulb till I saw the hinge board of my canopy because its too wide, so heres my tank lit with 5 T5 bulbs. Front to back,

Blu+
GE6500k
Tru Act.03
11k
Blu+

Im seriously considering taking the GE out and swapping it for an 11k I have on standby, as Im not a big fan of its coloring.Well see, but heres what those 5 look like on my tank.

how high should i hang the unit off over the water line? I was thinking I could build a reducer of sorts (for lack of a better word) to fit on the tank. I could paint the inside white to help reflect light down into the tank. Seem like a good idea?

TIA,

Not sure if that would work or not.

t-5 on icecap

t-5 on icecap

I am running 2 aquablue, one blue+ and one daylight all overdriven by 2 icecap ballasts. I have felt as if it is too strong of light. I have placed several acro's in the upper part of the tank and they have lost there color. They started out with a choc. brown and have turn almost a creme color. I have 2 pieces of scroll that havent grown at all under this lighting, when I placed them lower and somewhat shadowed they have started to grow. I have recently thought to maybe convert at least the daylight and blue+ back to a standard ballast to lower the intensity. Any ideas or suggestions or opinions?
Thanks
Jeff

You could start by changing out the daylight for another blue+ ,actinic 03 or a UVL SA.
