Grim , I just got my 8 bulb Tek for over my 120 ,how high off the tank is good . It has the acr. shied .

one more Q , on a 8 bulb tek , do you know which lights work on each plug ?
I was going to go with:
ab/ab/md/ap/ap/md/ab/ab

I think the outter 4 are on one and the inside 4 on the other.

If you order lamps from reefgeek you can get the better ATI's in place of the Geisemanns. They also have the UVL's. I like mixing things up to get a broad spectrum. I'd try this

Front

ATI Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
UVL Actinic White/ATI Aquablue
UVL Aquasun
D&D Midday
UVL Actinic White/ATI Aquablue
UVL Super Actinic
ATI Blue Plus

Or for a little more blue look

ATI Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
UVL Actinic White/ATI Aquablue
UVL Aquasun
ATI Blue Plus
D&D Midday
UVL Super Actinic
ATI Blue Plus

Start with a blue lamp at the front. The middle 4 you can move around to get the look you like.

Already have the guismann bulbs: ab/ab/md/ap/ap/md/ab/ab
How to use them ?

I will try the other bulbs when time to change

HMMMMMMM

Try this

AP
AB
AB
MD
AP
MD
AB

You really aren't going to get a great look with only 2 Actinic Plus lamps. Despite the name the Aquablues are a crisp white with a hint of blue. They don't wash out the yellow of the middays very well. You are going to probably end up grabbing a couple more blue lamps once you see this mix running. If you do grab the ATI Blue Plus and swap out a couple of aquablues for them. When it's time to relamp you will have your aquablues already..

Grim

What do you think of this, there on a Tek fixture.Too many midday's?

D&D aqua blue
D&D midday
D&D actinic+
D&D actinic +
D&D actinic +
D&D aqua blue
D&D midday
D&D midday

I'd move the middays to the middle. If you like white light that is probably going to get you close. I'd probably go 2 midday, 2 aquablue and 4 actinic plus.

my new 6 bulb tek unit should be here on tuesday. i'm thinking about how i'm gonna arrange my bulbs and wondered if anyone knows which bulbs go to which ballast. i'm trying to get the dusk/dawn effect and i have 2 atl blueplus, 2 uvl super acitnic, 1 ati sun, and 1 ati aquablue.

Grim â€"œ Thanks for all the info you have given on this thred!
I’m posting some pic’s of a hood I built. My copy of a Nova Extreme.
I have the 4X54 Extreme and when I built this hood I used the 2 x 54W T5 Sunlight Supply Tek Retro System with a Geisemanns actinic blue and D&D AQ blue +.

After turning this on it seemed that it was putting out as much light as the Nova!
My question is what bulbs you would recommend as replacements in the Nova to boost its performance.

Thanks

Jay

The reflectors make the biggest difference. I'd run the Aquablue with a UVL aquasun in the unit with reflectors. I'd do 3 ATI blueplus and a Aquablue in the nova.

Grim,

You said that the aquactinics because it can sit right on the tank, do i need to buy the 2.25 riser brackets or can I set the fixture on the tank?

grim,
did you see my question about the ballasts on a 6 bulb tek fixture?

I think those are the 4 center lamps on 1 switch and the 2 outter on another.

Hey gang, quick question here. I've decided to go with T5 lighting over my standard AGA 90 gallon. I plan on keeping a mixed tank, few sps one or two clams etc.

Right now i'm leaning towards the Aquactintic 48 inch 5 bulb unit. Will this be enough light for the Sps's? And if so, what bulbs would be the best? I want a clean look with nice blues.

Any help would be great as I plan to order my lights in the next week or so.
