I been trying to reach reefgeek.com for 2 days now, they haven't picked up the call or called me back, is there any other site that has the bulbs? I know other sites that carry the hood, but I needed ATI, UV lighting, Giesemann, and GE bulbs. anyone have a decent site with similar prices?

Send them an e-mail. Greg has been really good at answering mine within a few hours. ReefGeek is staffed by only two people.

What exactly do you mean by that, like I could just get the reflectors for the one I have? I actually have 2 fixtures, and I was wondering if I could just take them apart, and retro fit them into my canopy and just buy new bulbs and reflectors...possibility?

I was referencing the Tek fixture you were asking about, not the other one you have. Sorry for the confusion.

They will likely be back on Monday. You aren't going to get anything shipped before that anyway.

Nevermind, I looked and found the icecap retro system, I think I'll just install that inside the canopy, with the 660 ballast. Is this noticably better than the sunlight supply fixture?

if i have a 120 gallon 4x2x2 with 8 T5's would it be better to use icecap ballast and overdrive the bulbs or just stick to the regular ballasts that dont overdrive the bulbs?

I have the stock Tek 48" X 8 bulb T5 light with 2 mid days,2 actinic +'s and 4 aqua blues with the stock ballast, reflectors and shield. I would have to say it is more than enough light for my 120 and the bulbs will last longer and not as hot !

I just got my 8x54w Teklight fixture yesterday... Nice of Reefgeek to include a Tooties Pop and Tooties roll with the package! *yum yum yum*

I just love how a fixture this size is so light.

If you're looking for a retro, then yes, the IC is better than the "fixture". If you're compairing retros, the IC retro is brighter, hotter, requires fans, consumes more energy, and outputs more PAR. The Tek retro can be outfitted with IC SLR's for (as of last week) $2 per SLR at Reefgeek, is quieter since you'll run less fans, cooler, and works just fine in most tanks at 24" or less.

If the tank is 24" or more, or if you wants clams/SPS on the bottom of a 18" to 24" tank, then you'll be much better off with the IC setup.

The Sunlight Supply fixture is basically the retro in a prebuilt box for you. It does come with different ballasts than the retro and the fixture requires a splash guard since the end caps are not waterproof from what I've been told.

For what it's worth you need to run fans on T5's period. My 5 lamp normally driven system picks up nearly 30% more output using a fan and this thing is mounted in a 14" tall canopy with an open back and vent holes on either end.

I have the tek 48" X 8 in a aga top with 2 coralife fans on the top 1 in 1 out . 4 " from water - 4 1/2" from top
I put a dig therm. on the top inside of the reflrctor ( not top of unit) and got

167 deg. 8 bulbs on
125 deg. 4 bulbs on

87 deg. air temp in top (AGA)

80.3 deg. water stayed same during all day

So if I run the 660 ballast, I know it has the potential of driving like 4 x 110w lamps. If I run the 4 54w t5's, which normally would be 216w...about how many much does it overdrive it?... as far as actual wattage goes?

Approximately 80w per lamp.

Looking at the tek t5 48x6. Would some one with this
fixture please post the width and length of the opening
where the light comes out. The canopy I have has a 12
inch wide 48 inch long open spot. Will the 48x6 fit so that
I dont have lights hanging over the back brace. From what
I see of the online picts. the outside of the fixture is a bit
wider than the actual opening of the light output slot.

Apparently the guys over at Sunlight Supply have access to data we don't, so I've asked them to post it so we all can learn from it.

I don't know what the deal is with this Sam guy. There are plenty of other members and clubs on RC with PAR meters now, it ain't like I would be dumb enough to make this **** up.

He's gone until Tuesday, he's at MACNA right now. Apparently he either has different data, biased data, or knows something outside of the data we are using that makes a difference. I find it disturbing that a vendor who gains from your work would offhand dismiss your data without so much as providing his information to the community. Personally, my Tek T5 reto has no Tek parts in it (ballast by Universal, SLR's by IC, endcaps by someone else), and I'm beginning to believe that it's a good thing with the attitude from Sunlight Supply being like that.

I just ordered my tek hood from reefgeek, well the staff member said that the setup i am getting was the same exact one they had at the show..So he was asking if i was there and all.. I bought a setup that Grim told me to get..All i got to say is that Grim is the shiznits.. i can't wait to get it, also got it at the price that they had it at the show, so its a win win..yeay..Thanks Grim

Hey anin. Congrats on the tek. I am geeking for a new t5
myself. Its just that size matters for me. When you get
your new t5 fixture would you post up witch one you got
48x4 or 48x6 or ? So for me I would like to know the inside
opening for the light to output from the fixture. How wide
and how long? Just where the light comes out. Thank you.
T5 and 75 great way to start. dbr
