would i see a significant improvement in the look of the tank? and coral growth? what type of bulbs would you recommend for the 5 bulb fixture?

Should do good for growth.

A good starting combo of lamps would be 1 sun or daylight, 1 Aquablue, 2 blueplus and 1 UVL Super Actinic. Should be a little blue but have plenty of PAR and pop colors well.

"For 5 lamps I'd do 1 GE Daylight, 1 ATI Aquablue, 2 ATI Blue Plus and 1 UVL Super Actinic"

Hey Grimm, my lights came in. Per your above recomendation these are the bulbs I bought. How would you place them from front to back? This is going into the Aquatincs hood..

Thanks

I will do my Grim esp trick.... ;)

front
1 UVL Super Actinic
1 ATI Blue Plus
1 GE Daylight
1 ATI Aquablue
1 ATI Blue Plus
back

:D

btw, i do my 6bulb this way, per Grims reccomendation.

front
1 UVL Super Actinic
1 ATI Blue Plus
1 GE Daylight
1 ATI Aquablue
1 UVL Aquasun
1 ATI Blue Plus
back

Altho, im still leaning towards this, only cuz I prefer a slightly less blue look. You should try swapping, to see what looks better to you.

front
1 UVL Super Actinic
1 GE Daylight(swapped)
1 ATI Blue Plus(swapped)
1 ATI Aquablue
1 UVL Aquasun
1 ATI Blue Plus
back

good luck, Mike:)

Hi Grim, this is probably the most common question in this thread: T5 bulb selection. I have 48" 8x T5 fixture over 90G tank. I want to keep SPS/LPS so intensity is important, also I like 14K mh look for its colors. So, what do you think about this:

back
B1: ATI Blue Plus
B1: UVL Super Actinic

B2: ATI Aquablue
B2: ATI Actinic
B2: UVL Aquasun
B2: ATI Aquablue

B1: UVL Super Actinic
B1: ATI Blue Plus

front

Thanks.

Swap the ATI Actinic on B2 for a GE Daylight, other than that I think you are close.

Run the Shield and Mikey hit the positions fine. Play with it once you get it up and running

Pardon my ignorance on the subject , but what is the difference on PAR / spectrum between UVL Super Actinic and ATI Actinic? I've heard that Actinics really bring color green. Is this true?

Aquactinics 36 T5 Fixture

Aquactinics 36 T5 Fixture

Hey Grim,
I just purchaesd a Aquactinics 36 T5 Fixture
is this a good Bulb Setup all the bulbs are the Aquaz Brand
Front
Ocean Pro
Blue Pro
Sun Pro
Blue Pro
Ocean Pro
It seems a little on the white side
The fixture is great,I can't believe the difference from power
compacts.

Grim my turn. :)

What T5 setup would give me the par of a 250w XM SE setup, but have the same basic color of the Phoenix 250 I am running now.

All in the hood of a 120g 4'x2'x2' tank.

Thanks

The Super Actinic has much better output and color. Either pop greens pretty good. With your list of lamps you have tons of actinics, Blue Plus has actinic phosphores, so does the Aquablues. Throwing the GE lamp into the mix is just going to give you a little better spectrum.

Try arranging your lamps like this

Front

Blue Pro
Ocean Pro
Sun Pro
Blue Pro
Ocean Pro

And see what you think

Then order a UVL Super Actinic and do this

Front

Blue Pro
Ocean Pro
Super Actinic
Sun Pro
Blue Pro

Having a blue lamp in the front slot will make the look more blue

Ice Cap 6x54 retrofit with 1 UVL Aquasun, 1 GE daylight or Geisemann Midday, 2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue and 1 UVL Super Actinic.

Don't know if it would have zactly the same look as a Phoenix but it would be bright and pop colors pretty good. It would likely meet or beat the XM PAR output.
