thats what i gathered out of it...

Im not saying all that... it might be an unrelated matter all together, but Sam mentioned that SLS had to change the reflector design on the Teks and retrofits because of similarities to someone else's design. So maybe icecap went after them??? OR some other company all together.

Being 24" deep I'd go for the extra lamp. It gives you more options as far as lamp mixes and it will spread the light out a little further.

All things being equal I would not do business with the company that make the Tek. In this case the aquactinics is a little better option anyway.

Are there any other options out there for a hood that you would recommend?? I know about ATI but since that isnt an option right now....

What bulbs would you use in a 5 lamp setup?

No other good options right now.

For 5 lamps I'd do 1 UVL Aquasun, G-Mann Midday or GE Daylight, 1 ATI Aquablue, 2 ATI Blue Plus and 1 UVL Super Actinic

Grim........Alright this is what I have come up with..Im either going with the 36" Aquactinics 5 bulb hood or the tek lighting 4 bulb hood. They both look like good choices but Im not sure if the 1 extra bulb is needed. My tank is 75 gallons 36 long * 24 wide * 20 deep. I will be keeping mainly zoos, softies and lps in the tank. Please fill me in on your thoughts and what bulbs you think I should buy...

Thanks
I fit a 8 bulb Tek on a 24" wide tank ( use 4 now than if you get sps's you can use the other 4)

6 bulb is the biggest I can find in a 36" long tank. I dont think keeping SPS with a 5 bulb will be a problem..we will see

best place to get T5 bulbs

best place to get T5 bulbs

Grim,
Where is the best place (other than Aquactinics) to get T5 bulbs? I do not beleive that Aquatinics has ATI bulbs.
Thanks

you know, theres nothing wrong with using WH ballasts to drive t5ho's

Yeah, but he replaced it with an IceCap, so I was wondering if he was going to buy another IceCap to replace the one he used or another WH or something else.

SLS sent Ice Cap a cease and desist letter, not the other way around.

It's par for the course to send them right back. That way currently everybody is "wrong" and you both negotiate and cross license everything so nobody "wins".

i was going to go with 4 39W t5s but i think that might be over doing it. i plan on keeping sps, lps, and clams. what would you recommend?

I might recommend against the 39W T5's. Go with the 54W for additional wattage, even though they are simply for additional supplementation of light.

We are not getting the straight story here. Ice Cap got a letter from SLS. We know that much. Now the manufacturer of the IC reflector might have sent SLS a letter back BUT Sam had said SLS had changed thier reflector because they had gotten a letter. SLS had their reflector redesign in the works before Ice Cap ever got their letter.

Grim.. I am going to t5s... I have a 200 gallon.. 7 foot long by 25" tall 24" front to back tank .. mostly softies and lps few sps... what would you use for lighting and where has the best deals.. Thanks a bunch. mike

hi grim a couple of questions if you dont mind. i have a 110 high which is 30" tall. i currently run 2 250w 14k hamiltons on it that are 12" from the surface of the water. my tank is on the second floor of my house in a room over my garage so heat is a major problem for me. i plan on removing one of the halides and moving the other one to the center of the tank and setting up 4 t-5 bulbs on an ice cap 660. my question is will the t-5's be enough to replace the 250? i do have a large clam on the sand bed but everything else in the tank is lps and softies. and secondly i would like to make the tank seem light blue. i really like the look of very crisp bright, white lights but of course i cant seem to get this with halides. with my remaining 250 as the main source of blue in my tank what combination of t-5 bulbs would help me obtain that crisp white look? thank you for your help.

I would use 2 8x39 watt retros with IC reflectors. Reefgeek.com

ATI Aquablues would probably come the closest to the 14K Hamilton, maybe use 3 Aquablues and a UVL Super Actinic. The PAR would be enough for LPS and Softies away from the halide.

NOW...SLS is by far the worst company i have ever dealt with ..in or out of the aquarium hobby....threads started by me and many others have prompted them to leave RC because they know they suck...i hope they send me a letter on the basis of libel...LMAO....

you probably cant get ATI bulbs right nwo...i looked everywhere and all i could find was the pure actinics

Greg at reefgeek says ATI is developing a new "sun bulb" which should be out in the near future and the blue plus's will be back at reef geek soon to hopefully

if you can find another t5 unit i would highly suggest not buying SLS due to their customer service..or lack there of
