Hey guys, I'm sorry if this has been answered, but I haven't read all 1 billion pages of this thread, though I've read a good number of them.

I was hoping grim or one of the other T5 guys could take a look at This thread for me and help me out with my T5s.

Thanks for your time,
Matt

Grim or Hahn,

If I remember correctly somewhere in this thread (63pgs) one or both of you took some par readings of several of the bulb mgfrs. I started scrolling thru it but can't seem to find it. Can you help?

I just wanted to "pop my head back in" and let you all know that I finally got my 6x54W Tek T5 on the "empty" 120G tank to test the lighting scheme that GrimReefer suggested....All I can say is WOW! I think I'm gonna have to get some "shades" for all the fishies! This thing is bright (like see it from space bright). And to think I almost got the 8 bulb...

I love this light! THANKS Grim for the bulb recommendations (about 20+ pages ago)...it looks EXACTLY like my 14K halide! You've amazed me again, so thanks again!

I'll keep following this thread (the only one I am suscribed to) for a long time to come.

Grim, Hahn,

In your opinion(s), what would be a maximum depth you could run t5's on a tank and still be able to keep acros/sps and not run MH. Also being able to maintain colors assuming everthing else is in check ie: water quality, flow, perimeters?

Grim,

i want to get new lights for my 50Gallon (30X18X20). I am upgrading from my current setup of 2X65 watt power compacts, i am just not happy with the growth and would like to go T5's. My only option is a 24" 4X24watts. I assume that this will be a pretty good improvement on from my current set-up and that i should be able to keep some SPS and a Clam and anenome, is this true?

My bulb options are listed below, what would you choose?

Giesemann Actinic Plus or Blue
Giesemann Midday
Giesemann Aquablue
Giesemann Pure Actinic Plus or True Actinic

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jeff

Using Ice Cap stuff I would want the really high light acros within 12~16" of the lamps at least, maybe closer. A 24" tall tank would be safe for sure. 30 if you were careful about where you place the corals.

Yes as far as SPS and Anemone, for a clam I would eithr keep it up on a rock or stick to a lower light spcies.

For lamps I would do 1 Midday, 1 Aquablue and 2 Actinic Plus.

Grim and all the contributors to this thread, I wanted to thank you very much in helping me in choosing bulbs for my 8x48" light fixture. After adding 3000K into the mix, the tank looks amaizing!!!! Thanks alot!!!!! :)

Hey Grim,
I could use your (and anyone else's) guidance. I have a 75 gal tank, dimensions are 48"Wx21"Hx18"D. I am looking to upgrade my lighting to something that can support corals since I only have the fluorescents that came with it right now.

I was considering either the 4x54W Tek T5 fixture from ReefGeek, or the Icecap 48" 4x54W T5 retrofit kit. I am leaning towards the fixture since I don't have a canopy and would have to buy one (not necessarily a deal breaker though).

There's one more twist to the problem. I was not intending to keep SPS but some live rock I bought last night has a bit of acropora on it, that I might as well keep alive now that I have it. Would I need to move to a 6 lamp fixture to do this, or would the 4 be enough if I put the acropora high up in the tank?

Also, can you recommend bulbs for whatever your answer is? Thanks!

Any pics or specific details about the changes the 3000K made?

How about splitting the difference and getting the Aquactinics.com 5 lamp fixture?

As long as you keep the acros up high the 4 lamp tek will do fine. The 5 lamp fixture will just give you more options.

4 lamps I would use:

Front
Blue Plus
Aquablue
Midday or Ge Daylight
Blue Plus

5 lamp

Front
Blue Plus
Actinic Plus
UVL Aquasun
Blue Plus
Aquablue

Where would I buy that? The website says their online store is no longer open. I did a quick Google search but didn't see anyone selling them. Thanks for your help.

Unfortunalelly I didn't make any pictures of the same area of the tank before/after I added 3000K bulb. I was afraid that this bulb will yellow out my tank, but it didn't. Reds and pinks are now really visible and vibrant.

This is what I have right now:

------ back
blue+
super actinic
aqua blue
3000K GE
6500K GE
aqua blue
super acutinic
blue+
------- front

Check out the picture my wife made yesterday of a leather coral at the bottom of standard 90G:
