PaintGuru,
SLS gave me that same response a while back when I looked into the New-Wave. Then I saw one in person and realized what was going on. They dont tell you this ahead of time, and I consider SLS rather sneaky for doing so, but the reflectors on the Tek have a great deal more bends on them to make them parabolic. The New-Wave have only something like 5 bends to them. They are not as good as the Teks.

Interesting. So we're thinking they don't focus the light down as well as the TEK fixtures. Well shoot, I thought I had found something :).

Grim,
I have spoken with Tom at Aquatinics per your suggestion. If I was to get the 72" fixture and have him put the lights in, what would be your recommendation?

2 lamps will just get you by for softies and most LPS

So 1 double stripped coralife aqualight fixture with (1) 18Watt 10,000K and (1) 18watt actinic bulb will do fine for just soft and LPS?

Thanks

No, do the Tek HO 2 lamp ready fit retro. 4 of the NO Coralifes would be enough but you can't get as nice a lamp as you can with HO.

So you're saying that I should go for a:

36" T5 Sunlight Supply Tek Retro - 2 x 39W T5 HO

thus a total wattage of 78W

can I go for the 24" version for my 30" tank? There isnt a 30" version.

???

Thanks

if I use the Aquatinic 72 inch setup, what would be the optimal time schedule on the different zones. I have never run T5's so I don't know how long they should run durring the course of the day. Also what bulbs should I put in what zones?

Yeah, 24" version.

it doesnt effect anything such how much light will go through if I go for a 24" rather than a 36" sunlight tek T5HO retro fit 2-39W on a 30" tank?

I heard it is better to buy the 36" T5HO lighting for a 30" tank rather than the 24"

Thanksk

The Aquactinics has 3 circuits. Lamps 1, 4 and 7. 2 and 6 and 3 and 5 are on seprate circuits.

I would run (talking about rows, not lamps)Actinic in slot 2 and a Blue Plus in 6 12 hours a day as dusk/dawn.

Next I would do a blue Plus, Aquablue and another Blue Plus 11 Hours for daylight. (positions 1, 4 and 7

Then do 2 GE Daylights or a GE and a UVL Aquasun in 3 and 5 8~10 hours for noontime

If you don't mind having the lamps hang over the ends go with the 36".

okay thanks I might have to lean towards the 24" version

Tom can include 8 Aquaz Ocean Pro @$20 per, 2 Aquaz Sun Pro @ $17.50, 2 Coralvue Actinic @ 22.95, and 2 UVL Super Actinic @ $21.95. How would these correspond with what you listed. If his options are not good enough, would he have the ones you suggested in his store, or would I need to try to get them from another vendor?

Hey Grim, I planning on getting an Aquactinics T5 fixture when they make them for 24" systems, which they are working on as we speak at least thats what Tom said. What Bulb Combo do you reccomend. I want a nice crisp white with alittle blue violet going on.

hey grim, maybe you went over this once< i heard about a month or so ago that there were some new T5's coming soon from germany that were something like 12000K and had 5% red light in them. does that ring a bell? I will be replacing my aquablue's in about a month.

I'd order the lamps through reefgeek.
