, not to mention, only 324 watts. With a good lighting unit like a Fauna-marin, Aquatinics, or ATI, 6 is plenty.

Thats what worries me I have 384 watt\gal with my current fixtures.

Also I cant seem to find a 6 bulb in aquactinics?????

would the 6 bulb tek from reefgeeks be OK? or the same in a aquamedic?

Yes as far as SPS and Anemone, for a clam I would eithr keep it up on a rock or stick to a lower light spcies.

For lamps I would do 1 Midday, 1 Aquablue and 2 Actinic Plus.

Grim,

should i get 2 actinic plus or Pure Actinic Plus? what is the difference?

Thanks,

Jeff

I've been reading through this thread and am thinking this is the best place to ask...and I'm sure there's been a reply on this, but I have a T5 6 bulb 48" fixture over my reef tank, softies and some frogspawn and hammer corals, what would be the best combination of bulbs? I am considering buying off reefgeek.com, thanks for any help!!!!

Do the Actinic Plus. They are more blue and have a lot of usable PAR.

Dear The Grim Reefer

I know you test the ATI powermodule..correct?

I am very interested in this product. but my concern is it can be

running in 220v/60hz....

I heard the ATI powermodul's fan and ballast is 50/60hz..

Is it correct? Is there any hz problem?

Thanks in advance

Gotta be careful with the width of the tank on a bowfront. I spect a 4 lamp Tek is about as wide as will fit. That will give you plenty of light.

The actual lamp area on a 6 bulb unit is only 11" thick, so that should fit over the tank... its 12" at the ends, right?

The unit I testd was a 220v model, I assume 50/60

Thanks Grim!

You mean hz problem was not when testing... correct?

Good news to me...

My country use 220volt 60hz

:)

Do you think it is fit to use in my country ?

The T5s get about 3-4x the output and light per watt as what you currently have with PC's though... so that 384watts will go a much longer ways. A 5 bulb unit from Aquatinics would be fine I bet... they are nice reflectors that make up for the one less bulb, and the active cooling makes up for the one less bulb as well as the Tek loses a good percentage of its output due to heat buildup.

Looking for 4x39w t5ho in a 50G 36"wide

I want more like daylight with some fluorescence.

More crisp white than blue

I am in the process of transferring my 20H into a 28 bowfront (24x15x19). Since the bowfront is higher, I want to upgrade my lighting so I will be able to keep a clam or two. I now have a Current Orbit PC 2x65w on my 20H. Since the new 28g has a brace in the middle, that basically rules out MH's, which leaves me with T5.

I have been debating if I should just get the Finnex 4x24w T5 fixture with single reflector for $115 or spend $320 and get the Tek 4x24w from Reefgeek. So even though I really can't afford it, the peer pressure on these boards has "made me" get the Tek fixture . Now here are my questions.

-ReefGeek recommends 1 daylight-1Aquablue-2 Actinic Plus. I really prefer a "bluer" look. Right now I have 1 GE 6500K, 1 Giesemann 11000K aquablue, and 2 Giesemann Actinic Plus. Will this be a good combo for me?
-I can't hang the fixture in my apartment and I don't want to spend $55 for legs. If I get the Acrylic shield, can I just set the fixture on top of my tank?

hahnmeister and Grim , thank so much I will be ordering my new lights today.

For the bulbs it seems like alot of folks are going with combos of:
Blue plus
Actinic Plus
UVL Aquaun
Blue plus
Aqua blue

does sound about right for a blue hue and coral fluoresces?

axia - I had an AB burn out on me and replaced it with a 6000 midday. I was pretty blown away at the difference and might keep it this way for now.

4x39 T5 back - front.

A+
AB
6000
A+

The reds really come out strong and even the fish look better to me.
Here is an example of what my elegance looked like under the AB

and now under the 6000.

Plus, when it switches to actinic only, the contrast is amazing as well. I like the blues a lot personally, so only run all bulbs about 4-5 hours\day.

yes - I tried it the other way and did not like it - it was too white. I can point the A+ inward slightly and fill up the tank with actinic light, while concentrating the AB on the center of the tank for growth.

No worries at all, the thing ran like a champ.

I'd do like 1 GE daylight 2 Aquablues and a UVL Super Actinic. That should have a bluish tint but pretty bright white.
