hey t5ers,

Does anyone know if the helios waterproof endcaps from commodity axis can be used with the tek retrofits. If not any info on helios ballast in comparison.

Thanks in advance,
ron

If you mount the reflector and use the lamp clips to hold the lamp to the reflector you can use the push on edcaps.

It seems that reefgeek has the best prices on these fixtures.

I have a 72 gallon that I want to do a lot of SPS in. Will the 6 bulb 48inch unit serve the purpose or should I got for the 8 bulb unit?

http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/T5...48_inch__Tek_Light:_8-54W_T5_HO_Fluorescents_(Black)_by_Sunlight_Supply

The 6 lamps will be fine, you cant fit 8 over that tank anyway.

ok i have a 46 gal. bow with a mixed tank of corals. i am running 4 T5's 1 aqua blue, 2 blue plus, 1 UVL aquasun. powered by an icecap 660. and using icecap reflectors. my question is my leathers (devil's hand, toadstool) are the highest up in the tank and are growing like mad however my sps corals all but 1 either arn't growing or are very slow however their color and polyps look awesome. is this due to the lighting? they all came from tanks that used 250 watt MH and were in a shallow part of it. and i still started them off at the bottom of my tank and slowly moved them up higer over the course or a few weeks.

any ideas on my prob.

OK. I will go with the 6 then.

Someone is offering me a good deal on a MH set up.

This light--http://www.coralreefecosystems.com/ltg_sys...aquamedic-2.asp

650 watts total w new bulbs for 400 bucks. The unit is 2 years old.

Should I pass that up for T5s? I worry about the heat from the MHs.

Check your water parameters, Calc and Alk to make sur your levels are good, you should have plenty of light.

Hard to say if the halides will cause a heating issue or not.

Grim,

I could mount the reflectors & bulbs to my canopy like you said, but could i still use any ballast ( even an icecap ) using the helios endcaps.

Thanks again

Hahn,
You have any clue where to find the controller for the

What would you go for then? The new 6 bulb T5 unit or the MH fixture? Are you familiar with that Aquamedic MH fixture?

I'd do the T5's.

Yes

Hey, I just upgraded to a 6x54 watt tek t5 setup for my 55 gallon. The bulb are about 3 inches from the water's surface. Do you think I should run a fan over my bulb? Will my par really increase by 30% if I do this?

bulb confusion!!

What would be the difference between in color between the following bulb selections.

1) blue +, uvl super actinic, ge daylight, blue+
2) b+,sa,uvl aquasun,b+
3) b+,aquablue,ge, b+
4) b+,aq bl,aq bl,b+

Compare the kit you are looking at with the Tek retros from reefgeek.com... you might find a better price at geek even with the sale, and FWIW, geek is known for matching otherwise.

Beyond that, the geek advantage is that they will allow you to swap out the Tek reflectors for the nicer Icecap SLR reflectors for a few bucks per bulb. That makes for a much nicer retrofit.

I've emailed on posted on the reefgeek section but no answer. Do I need to call these guys?

Greg just got in a new shipment of Bubble Master skimmers. He's been busy packing them up and shipping them. He'll get back to you, or you can give him a call.

Thx crab....I'll wait...I've got time.

so the work horse5 ballast sucks(for the lack of a better phrase) for t5ho 39watt lamp applacations?Whats the problem with it If I could so kindly ask?I dont have time to read the entire thread back, sorry if this has been covered.TIA.

workhorse 5

workhorse 5

I am curious about the workhorse 5 also. Someone told me that a workhorse 5 driving a 60 in. HO bulb would be overdriving it. I was wondering if that was true? I have a workhorse 7 that I have been running for about a year firing 2 60in ho bulbs with no problem.

1) blue +, uvl super actinic, ge daylight, blue+
Bluish with blue tones in tank, good flurescence

2) b+,sa,uvl aquasun,b+
Bluish with pink and purple colors in rock more visible, good fluorescence

3) b+,aquablue,ge, b+
Less blue and less fluorescence in green corals

4) b+,aq bl,aq bl,b+
Dont know what bl is but if you used super actinics you would get a bright deepwater blue look, like maybe a 14K halide witha lot of actinic supplimentation.
