Just make sure you use one of these 2 ballats, Also I don't think you will get 8 lamps over a 90 and 6 should be anough anyway

I am using 4 4 foot VHO T6's at the moment. 6 54 watt T5;s would be fine.

If you do T5's I would do a 6 lamp ATI myself, 4 lamps isn't going to cover 26" real well.

For halides I would probably look at something like this http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=CU01076 But see if they make it with 150 watt halides. A single DE halide isn't enough for 40" IMO.

Hey Grim let me ask you, how much do you think the ATI 4 Bulb will cover if not 26"?
and
If you had to pick between the Tek 6 bulb and the ATI 4 bulb, which one would you choose?

Thanks again
Felix.

I' go Tek, 4 lamps is only going to give you good light over 12 inches or so.

wow 12" is pretty bad. if i could somehow design a hanging fixture/canopy i would just do a 6 bulb retro with icecap reflectors or maybe even the new tek 2 reflectors, but i would have to design something that looked presentable to hang over the tank.

Yeah, if you could do something different as far as spreading out the reflectors a bit you could get pretty good coverage with with 6 reflectors.

Lighting a Reef Tank

Yes, I do take pity on The Grim Reefer!
All day long he answers the same questions. Many asked by those with no clue where to start when it comes to setting up a lighting system. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't have to soak his typing fingers in an ice bath every night just to sooth the swelling! ;)

So in an effort to help save TGRs typing fingers, let me recommend a link that hopefully will answer some of the basic questions many folks have when it comes to figuring out lighting their aquarium:

Lighting a Reef Tank - Part 2

It's a Learning Center article by Mile Paletta that can be found on the website of RC sponsor Marine Depot. It's a pretty quick read (only two-parts) and covers some good basic info.

Hope this helps ya GR! (probably not) :)

I have the tek 6x54watt hood running:

-Blue+
-Super Actinic
-3000k
-Blue+
-Aquablue
-Blue+

My question is that i am growing lots of hair algae and having hard time maintaining it all. I know that there are other factors that i know of but i had this tank setup for about 3 months and i just added 55lbs LR and had a cyano outbreak, and went thru the whole cycling.I also got some chaeto and soon will get some snail and add more flow. My friend told me that his 3000k grew alot of algae on his tank. I wanted to know if this is true? He has the 5 bulb setup.TIA

Does anyone know the PAR ratings for Coralife bulbs, or are they not worth it at all? I can get UVL bulbs locally and was wondering what would be a good six bulb combo with those over a 75. I'm looking for my tank to be white with a blue tint to it.

Are the coralife lamps HO or Normal output?

I would run 1 UVL Aquasun and 1 or 2 UVL Super actinics but assuming you are running 6 lamps I would add a ATI Aquablue and 2 or 3 Blue Pluses to those.
