Hi grim.

Thanks for your advice to use the 2 X 9 watt 6700k combo.
Can I also use any other combo
Will the 1 X 24 watt 10k / 12 k work also.
What do you recomend for a small fixture 12~13" long ?

As Always,

Thanks For A Reply :D

:smokin:

Most of those will work.

Hey Grim, any reccomendations for bulbs over a frag tank?

Stats:

48X24X12(H)

4X 54W tek retro w/icecap 660
Aprox 8" above water.

Right now, just running leftover bulbs, 3-aquablue 1 pure actininc.

looking for best lighting for growth for mixed frags,
SPS in middle, LPS/zoas around outsides. Dont really care about looks, just growth.

thanks alot,
Mike

I've been trying to advise one of my local club members on T5 lighting and she sent me this link. It was my understanding that T5HO bulb's minimum wattage is 24w. She was looking at the 18" fixture. Is this a new bulb or what's the deal. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, they are HO. Helios makes a 30" lamp now too.

I just got my Tek light hood with 3 ATI Aqua Blue Specials, 1 UVI Super Actinic and 2 Blue + bulbs and all I can say is WOW!!:eek2:
I was a MH user previously and was a little skeptical at first about T5's and SPS, but from the looks of it, there should be no problem. Thank you everyone for your input on this thread. Im excited to see what these babies can do!:D

Grim Reefer,

Thank you for all of your input. I have read every page of this thread and have absorbed great information. I have a 75g that I am hoping to get set up soon, pc's, now t5's, whew. At least I know that MH's are out of reach for now! LOL. I'll be giving the Aquactinics a good look now.

I just wanted to say Thank you!

Can you please post a picture if you can?

Thanks,

Will the new 24" Aquactinics be too much light for a 20H? Distance to the sand would be between 12" and 16". Don't really have a clue what all Ill end up keeping but I would like the first fixture I buy to be versatile and forgiving. Thanks for your help.

I have a 55g I'm looking at fitting with lightings. I've just finished the DIY canopy and now looking at fixtures. HO's seem the best route to take but had a couple questions.

What is gonna be the main difference of http://www.marineandreef.com/shoppro/power_novaXtreme.htm
compared to the retrokits at reefgeek?

Besides the obvious one is a hood, the other is retro what is the extra 150$ getting me with the retro that the all in one hood is not?

difference of quality? longitivity? performance?

Thanks for the help!

I am in the process of cycling my 90 gal (48x18x24) tank without lights.

My Aquactinics Solar Flare fixture will be ready in about 1 week.

I am looking for suggestions for the bulbs. I like a blue look, but not overly blue, if you know what I mean.

I am planning to keep mainly SPS.

Might be a little much unless you are keeping SPS and Clams.

The retro gets you Parabolic reflectors, Waterproof endcaps and your choice of lamps. Well worth the 100 Bux.

I am currently running 2 UVL Super Actinics, 3 Blue Plus and a GE 3000K and really like the look. I would probably swap one of the super actinics for an Aquablue on your taller tank.

Thanks very much.
That's what I will go for first.

This thread was very informative. I'm going with the Aquatinics Constellation 7 bulb fixture. I am planning on a fish and softies tank but want the extra light in case I change my mind.;) I probably won't need all 7 bulbs running at once but I want the option for later on down the road. The fixture has three switches that run three rows, two rows, and two rows.

What would be a good combination of bulbs to run with this setup? Thanks.

I've been waffling between T5's and MH's on my 75g and I think I've decided on T5's. I'm still trying to decide what to use. I found the 4x54wt Tek T5 retrofit on diyreef.com I can upgrade up to Ice cap reflectors for 8$. Would this give me enough light to do most LPS and Softies and a couple SPS's and clams. Also how much better are the Ice cap ballast than the Teks. Would it be enough that 4 Icecaps would beat 6 Teks with Ice Cap reflectors Would this bulb combo work

Aquablue
