I'm glad to see that the emphisis is no longer of that blue end of the spectrum with everyone forgetting about balancing out the red end. You don't need a lot of red right but if it missing from the spectrum, as often happens with the heavy blue lighting, you don't get enough balance for super growth.

GE 3000K reefgeek sells them
3 Blue Plus

Running on a IC ballast you will get good growth with about any lamps

I ordered a 4X54w Tek light fixture (48inch) for my 65 gallon (48X18X18). I want to keep a few soft corals and a clam. I like a bit of blue in a tank but I like more white to make the inhabitants more visable. I ordered 2 X 15000K and 2X22000K Aquarscience lamps as recommended by the store. What will these look like? Good choice?

Hey Grimm,

Back in February I ordered a Fauna Marin Ultra Solaris based on your recommendation. I am still waiting for the unit, and was just informed they do not know when it will be sent.

My tank is a 120 gallon, 4 x 2 x 2, and I liked the Ultra Solaris b/c it was "pre-packaged" and easy to install.

Should I continue to wait for the Ultra Solaris or cancel that order and order something else? If you recommend something else, what should I order that is easy to install in a canopy?

Thanks for the help (again),

Jim

Check and see if reefgeek has an ETA on the ATI Sun Power. Its the same basic design but cheaper, comes with a splash shield and is better as far as output even with the splash shield on.

Did you ever get the Sunpower in and tested?

Hey Grim,
Can an IC 660 run 4 X 48" 80 Watt bulbs? I found this info but did not know if the over driving would effect it or not. A Model 660 can operate up to 16 lamp feet with a total of 464 rated lamp watts.

Thanks,

Henry

The 660 can run 4x54 inch lamps. The 80 watt lamps are 60" long and you can only run 3.

Thanks Grim,
Man you answer so fast. Sorry about the silly question the website I was on had them all listed on the same page and I did not check the length. I got excited when I saw 80 Watts and thought they had upgraded them.

Hey Grim!!!

I bought the new limited edition 48" Tek light 6x54w T5 fixture and was wondering if the reflectors are the upgraded versions inlcuded with the new tek2 retrofit kits.

Also... How much PAR will I loose thru the aftermarket splash guard?

Thanks :D

You lose about 10% to the shield. The reflectors are not the same as the retros which is a good thing, they suck.

Yes, It had about 15% better output with the splash shield in place than the Ultra Solaris with the same lamps.

How do they compare to the Powermodules? Are the Powermodules worth the extra money?

I really can make a honest comparison to the Power Module. That would take a 6x54 inch Power Module. I think I've dropped enough coin on lighting fixtures this year:D I suspect the powermodule has better reflectors but I am not sure how much better they are,

hey grimm what do you think about the tek 60" refelctors im thinking about going that route. or i will have to buy 36 of the 39w ic reflectors it will save me alot of bucks greg at reef geek said they are as good as the ic? wider though not a problem for me the tank is 48" deep so i could run 16 bulbs anyway what do ya think
