Hey Grim, how are those Korallen Zucht Fiji Purple bulbs panning out?

Looks nice. I have some 54 watt lamps on the way. Should be here next Monday

Whats better on a 72" tank? 6 x 60" x1 staggered or 6 X 36" X 2

Really depends. With the 60" lamps the ends of the tank wont be as intense. If you're cool with having lower light critters there the 60" lamps are fine. If you want to fill the tank with SPS go for the 36" x 2/

Keep in mind that 2 X 36" bulbs is going to be 2X bulb cost initially and at every changeout compared to 1 X 60" bulbs.

I think 60" T5s are the most cost efficient lighting in reefing if you can do them.

If you are viewing from all 4 sides I would either go with Aquablues for a 14K look or Blue plus for a 20K look.
Grim, would I be able to keep a clam, anemone, or sps under all acuablues or all blue plus?

Thanks again everyone.

Hey Grim,
What type of bulb combo would you recomend for a 72" Giesemann Moonlight @ 3 x 250w DE's and 4 x 80w T5's on a standard 125 gal.
It's fish only at the moment but will eventually be reef.
Thanks

If you run a couple of blue Plus and Pure Actinics it will look nice with 10K halides. If you are planning 20K halides you can use a blue Plus, Pure Actinic and a couple of Aquablues to tweak the look and provide dusk/dawn. The aquablues will brighten the look up some without washing out the colors.

Hi Grim....

Picking up my 6 tube unit tomorrow, got the following tubes so far, what combo would you reccomend & would you change any for something different if you think the balance will be out?

2 x Tunze Narva Blue 2
1 x KZ Corallight
1 x KZ Fiji Purple
2 x Aquascience Specials

Would you change any for Gisemann's etc? Also a front to back order if it isn't being too much of a PITA! :)

Cheers, Shelton.

Narva makes Aquascience and Giesemann lamps so I am not sure how much difference there is to any of them except for the special. I would probably drop a special for another blue but go with what you got and see what you think.

Front
Blue
Coral Light
Special (Maybe go for a real actinic or a blue or even another purple instead)
Purple
Special
Blue

Grim; German reefer C. Schuhmacher did another post in lighting forum " T5 lighting not as good as we thought "and referenced http://archiv.korallenriff.de/Lichttest/T5-1 done by http://www.korallen-keller.de/ which did a 9 month growing comparison between Aquascience and ATI which seems to have quite a growth difference between the two. And you are now testing KTZ T5's. What is giving these diverse results in growth? PAR? Spectrum? Bulb quality? Results not in I gather by your comparisons on 54 w KTZ but if those earlier unconfirmed test are substatiated by you, does that mean #1 is KTZ, #2 is Aquascience, #3 is ATI for growth by brand and the adapt colour for eye candy coloration by type of bulbs?

Seems so, obviously can't speak for Grim though.

He is comparing ATI Aquablues to AS Special lamps. The special is a pure white light while the aquablue is bluish. It is about like comparing a 14K halide to a 10K. I personally would never use just 2 lamps. If he really wants to prove the worth of his lamps match them up against UVL Aquasuns or the GE 6500K's. They are a nice lamps but because of the increased cost I would probably go with the GE, it has the same white appearance.
