The T5 Q&a Thread

Hello Grim.
I don't know if this is the right thread to ask this question.
I would appreciate it, if you could give me some advice.
I have a 15 gal sump divided into 3 sections, one being a small refug. I am using a clip light over it with a 6500k daylight energy bulb 60 watt. 12/12 on / off cycle. Chaeto in it is growing great , but I notice a small amount of red algae on some of the rubble in the bottom. it's defiantly algae & not slime. Could this 60 watt bulb be too intense for this small of a section, I have seen a 40 watt similar bulb available.
What would you recommend.

Thanks for your time & patience, with this off thread question.

Terribly sorry to ask again Grim, but I found an ATI dealer that will ship to me. I can get the Geismanns and the ATI Actinic Blue 03, 12K Aquablue Special and the Blue Plus.

So a good SPS/Clam Layout for a TEK 8x54W fixture if you would be so kind?

If its coraline algae it really doesn't take much light for that to grow.

Hey Grim, Which bulb is best for coral growth, GE 3000k or 6000k, Gman midday, ati sunpro or uvl aquasun? TIA. I tried searching for it in this thread but man its so huge.

Guys I'm sure this has been answered before, but because you can't use two digit numbers (21 or 39) or T5 in the search box, I was having no luck turning up an answer. Please forgive me.

Anyhow, I recently acquired a used 36" Maristar fixture with dual 150W MH and dual 36" 39 watt T5s. Niether of the T5 bulbs are firing, and I'm afraid something might be wrong with the ballast. I have coral life 21 watt 36" T5 laying around that I wanted to use to see if it is indeed the ballast or if in fact both supplied bulbs were actually dead (unlikely). :(

So finally to the point... can I safely use a 21 watt T5 bulb in a fixture designed for 39 watt bulbs? I know this is fine with regular household bulbs, but wanted to double check that the bulb won't get fried if (cross my fingers) the ballast for the T5s is working. Thanks for the help.

If you want clams I would at least get the Tek.
hey grim!
are you recommending the Tek because of the individual reflectors? thanks!!

Grim, i'am unable to find thread that you started dedicated for pictures of the different T5 bulbs. i search, looked at many threads but no luck.

Thanks,

Hello Grim

Thanks for the reply.

What's your opinion on the % of daylight, to actinic combination of total light output

Thanks Again

getting ready to set up a six bulb retro on my 150 what do you think the best mixure of bulbs would be to run lps and some sps

Hey Grim, how would this setup go 4x24w for softies, lps, and some easy sps? Maybe a clam later down the road.

I don't know about a specific percentage, I just like an actinic in the mix.

2 Blue Plus, a UVL Aquasun or GE 3000K, GE 6500 or Geiseman Midday, UVL Super Actinic, ATI Aquablue or a 3rd Blue Plus for a little more blue look.
