I'd replace all the current lamps on that tall tank

Front
Gmann Actinic Plus
UVL Aquasun
UVL Supr Actinic
Actinic Plus
Gmann Aquablue
Actinic Plus

Should be about 14K

Thanks Grim, does the above provide the most PAR I can get out of those brands of lights?
Thanks

If all you want is PAR use all aquablue lamps. It might give you a 10% boost over what I suggested

replacement options

replacement options

Currently have a 6 bulb Tek light with the following bulbs.

FRONT
Ati Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
Ati Pro Color
Ati Aqua Blue
ATI sun pro
Ati Blue Plus

I could not be happier with the color and growth of all my corals. It it that time of year to change out my bulbs. I can not find the ATI sunpro on reefgeeks site. Is it discontinued? What would be a good replacement? Doe anybody have experience with the 6000K Midday Sun T5 HO Fluorescent by geisemen? Would this be a good replacement or should I just go with the GE bulb?

Hi Grim,

Just looking at the spectrographs for the UVL 75/25 and the Geisemann Aquablue. Why do you recommend the UVL to bring out the reds/yellows/greens if the Aquablue has more red and a peak at green and yellow, maybe not as high but still there.

Thanks.

Hi Grim - I have an 8x54w T-5 fixture for a 120 gallon tank (48x24x24). It is primarily SPS and a few clams. What do you think of the following for growth and appearance:

(Front)
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
GE 6500K Daylight
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Aquasun
ATI AquaBlue Special
UVL â€"œ Aquasun
ATI Blue Plus

Hello Grim... I currently have a 55 gal tank with 2 fixtures on it 1 fixture is a current PC with 2 65w 50/50 bulbs and the other is a coralife PC with 2 65W daylight and 2 65W actinic i think the bulbs in both of these are older how old I dont know but I was thinking about upgrading I talked to my LFS and they recomended the Nova extreme T5 model#1122which is 2x54W daylight and 2X54W actinic could be me but that doesnt seem better than what I have is it worth upgrading or???? I know the guy I bought the tank from was growing/fraging corals so it must have worked for him I guess my main question is should I bother upgrading or not.....oh yeah Im wanting to get into the corals as of right now Im FOWLR but just bought my first coral to see how it does thanks in advnance for any help and advise Crash

No more sun pro. Use the GE 6500K Daylight instead.

You can believe those cute little graphs or your eyes. The 75/25 has a slightly pinkish cast to the light. Aquablue is defiantly blue. Under my hand held spectrometer the 75/25 looks like an Aquablue with green and yellow spectrum removed.

Haha yes yes...I bought both on your advice and the UVL is definitely pinkish. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Seems like a fulltime job for you. Thanks.

I think you will like that better. changes market with ****

Gives you better balance with the reds from the Aquasuns. You could grab an aquablue as a spare but I think you will be happier with the Blue Plus between number 5 and 7.

I'd rather see you step up to a Tek or even one of the better Novas but even the cheap fixture with good lamps is a good upgrade from PC's.

Novas Extreme Pro would work or the 4 lamp Tek either one. If you get the Nova ditch the lamps that come with it after 6 months.

Aquactinics Constellation would probably be the minimum you would want to try over that tank.

I will look into this, Thanks. BTW. Will this be okay with sps..

Do you think its worth doing??? I mean the nova pro is like 350 and then new bulbs in 6 month lots of money I know the guy was growing corals with whats on there it seems like there is alot of light on the tank now ?????

Hello Grim! Thanks for the great thread!

Here is my situation, I have a 26" deep tank (23" to sand bed). I also have a Finnex 6 bulb 24" fixture with the bulbs that came with the fixture. What do you reccomend to get as much light into the tank (and to the bottom) as possible?

I was thinking of adding as many reflectors as I could fit into the fixture. If i can fit only two, should i fit them towards the center or towards the outer edge?

Get the 4 lamp Tek. 216 watts, More PAR in the tank and better colors, Lamps are good for about a year. You spend a tad more up front but you are buying quality. If you add an external cooling fan (the little two fan Hydor clip on unit for like 30 bux) You can raise anemones and clams in a 55 easy.

All ATI Aquablues is your best bet for lamps.

Check the lamp spacing as far as reflectors go. The Aquactinics retrofit reflectors are the smallest out there and are 2" wide. You might be able to use 2 lamps per reflector. A guy did that using Ice Cap reflectors and got very good results.

Search for the thread "Linkinrats 75" I think is the title. He did the 2 lamps per refelector
