Could I replace one of these bulbs with a blue plus for a tank that is mainly softies, some sps and lps with a few clams?
This is my current lineup front to back
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500 K --------??????
UVL Aqua sun ---------??????
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue

I don't see why not, the Blue Plus has better PAR than the Aquasun for sure and maybe the GE.

Any thoughts or input on putting a 6 bulb ATI fixture over a 24" wide tank? Am I going to be disappointed with the coverage?

Depends what you want to raise. If you want clams on the sandbed go 8 lamps. If not 6 will be fine.

Thanks Grim, is ATI still the highest par module? If i went retro i can only get 7 bulbs under there, but if i went module i could get 8-10.

As far as I know ATI still has the best output. Fauna Marin has an interesting fixture but I already dropped better than 600 bux for one of their super fixtures that was a major disappointment so I'll let some other sucker buy the next one.

Got all my T5s running. Here's my current bulb combo:

Front
ATI Blue+
Fiji Purple
ATI Aquablue Special
ATI Blue+
Aquascience Blue 22k
ATI Aquablue Special
------Canopy Hinge------
T12 VHO UVL Super Actinic
ATI Blue+
ATI Blue+

I am still planning on adding a GE 6500k, but I had to tell AquaiumSpecialty to just send my order without it, since I'd been waiting for that bulb forever.

Overall love the look with this combo, its just ever so slightly too blue. So probably will replace one Blue+ with a daylight.

(notice the VHO actinic and additional two T5s on bottm, my canopy is hinged).

I noticed from here that the ATI Sun Pro has more PAR than the GE 6500k. I dont see anybody using or recommending those bulbs and I can't seem to find them either. Is this an availability issue??

Does anybody know of any local stores that might cary an 80w GE6500k T5??? I tried walmart/lowes/HD and they all have them in T8 but not T5. Not wanting to pay shipping for just one bulb.

ATI doesn't make the Sun Pro any more.

Any 6500K daylight lamp will work. With that any blues a 3 or 4K would work too. I think you will have a hard time finding one locally, try horticulture places.

Grim,

Have you done any comparison with the ATI Modules against the Sfiligoi Fixtures?

I did a Sfigiloi mini stealth and it sucked. Even adding an external fan that was pushing plenty of air wouldn't help. The design allows the ballast to get cooked. Unless they have changed the design from the sealed top and slapped on fan design I wouldn't pay what they are asking for one. They look nice but DAMN, they are pricey.

I found out that Grainger does carry GE T5 bulbs of various length and color temp... including the GE 6500k 80w :D Theres one about 15 minutes from me.

It goes for $21 which is a bit more than Reefgeek's $18, but still saves a few bucks when you include shipping (just for one bulb that is).

Cool, See what other lamps they sell and let us know.

They had a bunch of GE's..... 3500k, 4100k, 5000k and 6500k.

Sucks they close at 5pm so I will have to make a trip tomorrow morning.

All were identified as Low-Mercury (ECO), only the 3500 and 4100 were lablled as HO.... but I don't think it matters.

I am interested in the new uvl bulb the "indigo sun". I have found no info about it, but do have a pix of just the bulb and not what it is shining on. Does anyone have any info? Thanks.

Maybe i'm just overthinking things, but should my daylight and dawn/dusk lights be alternated in their placement? My 8x54W T5's are retro's and as such, are wired in banks of 4. Should I rewire them so that 2,4,6,8 are on one 660, and 1,3,5,7 are on the other?

If you get a NO lamp just keep an eye on it. It might not be quite as bright and not last as long as the others.

I used to see Aquasun bulbs recommended a lot but not anymore. Any reason for that?

You can get the same effect with different bulbs that aren't as harsh. The Aquasun is a great bulb if you are running at least 8 IMO.

Hi guys,

Anyone have the lowdown on Sfiligoi stealth T5 pendants good, bad they have them at www.aquariumobbessed.com

Jim

The Stealth I tested sucked. It looked nice but the design wouldn't allow for decent cooling. It looks like the really big ones have a perforated top which might help but for the price they want I would stick with ATI if you can get them. If you do decide to try the stealth make sure it has the venting on the top. If it is a solid top with just vents in the ends DONT BOTHER.

If you buy one and don't know anyone in the area with a PAR meter I would be willing to test it for you here. I'd be willing to pay for shipping from my location to yours so it wouldn't cost you anything but an extra few days. Having someone competing with ATI would be good, keeps ATI on their toes and gives us more options. Will at Aquarium Obsessed is one of the good guys in the hobby and I would really like to be able to reco the stuff he sells.

After running the Actinic White I came to the conclusion it adds the actinic as well as the red you get from the Aquasun and the PAR is pretty close too. If you want a more daylight look the Aquasun or ATI Pro Color are still good choices.

I have a pick showing it running with a GE 6500K, UVL 75/25 and Aquasun I thing and it looks to me like the Indigo is a little less blue than an ATI Aquablue but it is hard to say based on the picture. At the moment I have more lamps than I know what to do with so I will have to let someone else test one of them.

Doesn't have to be that spread out but it would be good.

Both work too. The lower one is useful if you don't have a lot of slack in the ballast wires

im thinking of going all T5 on my 4'x3'x2' tank looking at the ATI 10x54w model what bulbs do you recommend ?

ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500K
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500K
KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue Plus

That might work. You may want to replace one of the GE's with an ATI Blue Plus.
