Hey Grim, one more question.

What do you think about the Aquatinics Constellation 7 bulb 48" unit for my 48x24x24 SPS only reef?

Have you done any #'s on that unit? Or should I spring the extra $$ for the ATI?

I'm also looking for a black fixture to match my decor! I hate that ATI doesn't make black.

8 would be fine. Not that 10 wouldn't be finer but 8 lamps will do the job, 10 would just allow for a better mix of lamps.

Make sure the eggcrate is placed with the thin side of the grid up.

I heard about someone who made a tank cover out of a black mesh material that was like a hair net. I can't remember what the material was intended for.

They are suposed to be sending some out to me. Sounds like they are a UVL lamp that has had the electrodes beefed up a little more.

And 1 more questions...is there a bulb that gives out mostly daylight for subs of a Blue Plus (just in case)? I plan to make a DYI panel of 6 3W royal blue LEDs to give shimmering effects and fluoresce my corals like mad. Four Blue Plus and 6 royal blue LEDs may give too much blue. I just want to order extra bulb for sub if needed.

Plan to order this weekend with Hellolights ta take advantage of the 10% off deal.

ATI Aquablue, crisp white with a slight blue tint to it.

I really like the look of that lamp with a blue plus for dusk/dawn but you might not, you can always swap the positions to get the look you want.

I have an Aquactinics, They are nice. The constellations would give you enough light over the 24" tall tank as long as you keep it low. I sat mine right on the tank. I like the look better than the ATI too.

I have a rimless tank & I usually keep my fixures about 6" above the waters surface to allow reach room.

Most of my SPS are in the 20" and above range, the bottom really only holds LPS.

Almost sounds like your saying I'll be pushing it with not having enough light for great colors & growth. I'd hate to be borderline. I will be using three ATI Blue+, a KZ purple, two ATI aquablues and a GE 6500k. Should be some good output bulbs.

What is the optimum height of T5 lighting? I am running into heat issues I would like to raise my lights to 8" from water in order to install 4" fans to blow cool air in.

It depends on the type of corals you have and where they are placed. My constellation is sitting right on top of my 90g. Some of my soft corals (zoas, rics, etc) can not go into the upper half of the tank or they get toasted.

I believe my tank is 24" deep. For nothing but sps this distance is perfect. You could raise it 6" or more if you want to keep more delicate corals.

Regardless I do not think raising it that much would limit you in any way...unless your tank is 30" deep and you want to keep sps on the bottom.
