Re: I Know The Problem with T-5's...

Thanks for you post. Our tanks are similar in size. Which 2 bulbs do you have on the separate power cord?

Also how high is you fixture off the tank?

Thanks

.......WITH ALL THE BULB CHOICES, ITS HARD TO EVER BE SATISFIED!!!!!!!!

I took a picture of my tank with the ATI 6 lamp Sunpower!!!! This is as close to the real thing, only the tank is brighter as I had to tone it down in order to try and render the actual color of the tank!

Bulbs are as follows...front to back...ATI Blue Plus, UVL 75/25,ATI Blue Plus, Geisemann Pure Actinic, ATI AquaBlue Spezial, ATI Blue Plus.

I think it looks much like my old Radium 20k setup......

Re: Re: I Know The Problem with T-5's...

Right now I have the UVL 75/25 and an ATI AquaBlue Spezial on one cord and 3 ATI Blue Plus along with an Actinic on the other power cord.

This fixture comes with a hanging kit, so I have it suspended about 10" above my water line......I want to acclimate my corals to the new lighting setup.

This is a very nice light fixture BTW!!!!!!

Finally ordered my lights today. I'm excited to get them but I probably won't see them til next Thursday. The tank I'm setting up is a 58g, so 36" long. My canopy already had two Icecap fans mounted in the top, and I wanted to use them. I have an Azoo 4 fan unit. Now Grim, I've seen you recommend to face these towards the label end of the T5's? Should this be enough air movement? Two fans pulling the hot air out, and the 4 fan Azoo blowing across the one end?

I typed that whole previous part and never mentioned what I ordered. I ordered 5 Aquaillumination reflectors(I believe these are the Reefgeek "brand"), with a regular ballast to power one bulb, the other 4 will be powered by an Icecap 660. So in other words 4 will be overdriven. Now my plan was to have the NO bulb up front with the overdriven ones lined up behind it. Does that sound good? The bulbs I'm getting are 3 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue and 1 Icecap Deepwater(75/25). So my idea was to go Blue Plus(NO), Aquablue, Blue Plus, Deepwater, Blue Plus. What do you think about that order? I'm hoping to get a nice 20k look.

Do you think the ATI powermodular would be to much light for a 36 x 18 x 24 Tall, and what would be better the 6 or 8 bulb fixtur if i can use it.

Not unless you are raising nothing but low light corals, even then you could just raise the fixture. 6 lamp fixture would be fine

Grim - Trying to get into planning stages of a 300g about a year from now.

Any recommendations on setup for a 72x40x24 or so 300g? I'd like to go all T5 if I can.

On my current 72" 125g, I'm running 8x36", and I think I could use some more..

Thoughts on a 300g setup? Can I make it happen with all T5?

I'd do 12 rows of lamps. You could do 2 36" lamps or 1 60" lamp per row. With the 60" lamps you would just need to not place high light critters in the last 8" or so at each end.

Hey Peeps. Thinking of making the jump to T5's.
I have a 24l x 24w x 16h mixed reef with SPS up top.

ATI Sun Power 6x24w fits my current budget.

What bulb combo would you recommend? I like the color of 14-20k M/H bulbs.

Thanks for your opinions.

4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 UVL Actinic White and a GE 6500K Daylight.

Grim... I need your advice. I've been anguishing over what to do about lighting since I setup my tank almost 18mos ago. I've been running a 4 x 65w PC fixture that I had from an old FW system (with SW bulbs of course). It's a 90gal bowfront that's about 24" to the sandbed. What I'm planning to do is put a 4 x 54 fixture (probably a PowerModule but possibly a Fauna Marin Ultra Solaris if the price is really good) at the back of the tank and a 2 x 36" IceCap retro in the front. How would you recommend I lamp this? The tank is LPS, zoas and palys now but I plan on it being a mixed reef. The front of the bow is tricky? And should I use an IC ballast on the 2 x 36"?

I'd use 2 Blue Plus at the front for the bow area. Just normally driven

For the fixture do

Front
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue or GE 6500K Daylight for a brighter look
ATI Blue Plus

You could mount the 4 fan azoo unit so it blows in from the side if there is room in the canopy. You might want to have a fan blowing fresh air in from the back so it feed fresh air into the azoo unit then just have one fan pulling air out the top.

What's a good, relatively high par 4 bulb 4x24 T5 set-up, with a blue emphasis?

All ATI Blue Plus would be high PAR. I would use 3 Blue Plus and either an ATI Aquablue or if you have pink or purple corals you want to show up use a UVL Actinic White.

Well, I'm not sure I'd have enough room to mount the Azoo inside. I'll check it out today. I'd be a little worried that it might fall in. So I'm assuming that there wouldn't be any problem having them blow from the back then across one of the ends? Then having the two Icecaps pull out all of the hot air?

On a side note, think my bulb order will be ok?

Grim:

I just got a 6X39W fixture with a setup I bought. I want to match my old 14k Phoenix bulb. I prefer ATI bulbs, but if you think others will be better, by all means. So what bulb combo do you think?

How about mounting an Ice Cap at each end and using the azoo for the top venting? I am a bit worried about 4 fans reaching too far out on the tube and over cooling it. Maybe you could disconnect two of them.

Lamp mix should look fine.

4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue and 1 UVL Actinic White IMO will look close to the phoenix but make pink and purple colors look better.
