It's worth a try. Might be a little more purplish than some would like but if you have a bunch of stuff that will look better with the extra red why not.

I like what you suggested but I'm just not getting the pop out of some zoos and rics and some of my purple /red sps. What K range would you think this combo would be in?

It will be up in the high teens I spect.

Grim,

What do you think would be the best fixture and bulb combination for my 36"L x 18"W x 24"H reef. I have a mixed reef with mainly sps and lps. I want alot of growth from my sps and want the colors to really pop. Thanks ahead of time.

6 lamp ATI Sunpower or Powermodule with 4 ATI Blue Plus, UVL Actinic White and GE 6500K Daylight would be a good place to start.

Grim, I am currently running 7 lamps OD on IC 660 ballast on my standard 120. I am wanting to add 2 more lamps with slightly more blue look (close to a 17K look) and make my reds and pinks pop. I would use an IC 430 for the additional 2 lamps. The only reason I am using so many IC ballast are cause I have those on hand. My current lamps are:
AB
Pro color
AB
Aqua Science 15K
AB
75/25
AB

Also I am currently using 4 X 120mm fans on each corner of my canopy blowing in on the endcaps. What are your thoughts on my cooling setup?

i just got my hamilton 6 bulb T5 fixture and it came with 3 blue and 3 white bulbs should i put the bulbs one white and one blue or should i put all the blues so they come on so i can do the dawn affect and then have a switch turn on all the whites. And i know im going to get better bulbs what wold would be the best bulbs to get the most color and best look and how should i lay them out? thank you

Howdy Grim,
I asked in another thread, but was hustled over here.
Most of my questions have been answered in this (very long) thread. Thanks for all the info.

The oone that has not gotten an answer yet is:

Are these endcaps any good:
http://www.customaquatic.com/estore...duct=LT-VA72613
or should I use the more traditional ones?

The thread I started is here:
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1664233

If ya wanted to take a look.

This is on a new build 75g that will be reef, but have not decided on what yet, prolly a mix.
More questions about lamps wil follow. Just getting lighting hardware now.
I will be using a IC 660.

Thanks,
Joe

Best thing you could do is replace the first 3 Aquablues with Blue Pluses. Try that before adding more lamps.

You want the blues for dusk/dawn other than that just try to have an even mix in the fixture as far as placement.

grim when i upgrade my bulbs what would be the best set of bublbs to get and in what order? thank you

I don't know the firing order of the fixture but 4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 UVL Actinic White and a GE 6500K Daylight

Place the UVL lamp just front of center and the GE just behind with a blue separating them if possible.

I currently run these 54 W bulbs on Triad ballasts for a std 75 gal:

ATI Blue +
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue +
ATI Blue +
ATI Aquablue Special
ATI Blue +

I notice that you recommend 4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 UVL Actinic White and a GE 6500K Daylight a lot. How does the going with the GE 6500 Daylight change the look when paired with 4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 UVL Actinic White vs. having an ATI Aquablue or UVL Aquasun in place of the GE 6500 K Daylight?

Recently I had an endcap break, and I was running only 4 bulbs and really liked the look as shown below. I have been reading some stories recently that red spectrum isn't good for corals. If so, what two bulbs would you add to the bulb mix below to keep the look you get with only the 4 bulbs listed?

ATI Blue +
ATI Blue +
ATI Blue +
ATI Aquablue Special

I'm gonna do a MH/T5 combo. I'm running a

150w 14k Phoenix and 4 x 24w t5's

What T5 bulbs would you recommend?
---It's a Mixed Reef
---I like it blue 14k to 20k

Thank you in Advance

The GE lamp will make greens look brighter than the Aquablue. Running Blue Pluses and a Aquablue only is nice until you throw in a pink or purple critter. Not enough red to bring up the colors.

As far as red spectrum goes people need to learn how to friggin read. There is an article about using ONLY red spectrum on corals and it didn't produce a lot of growth. It just means the corals don't utilize that particular color of light well. I have had several people ask about that after having someone tell them about the study but not giving all the details.

Anybody using the aqua science bulbs? I was wondering how they compare to the ATI as far as par goes.

They are about the same thing as Giesemann lamps. In my tests the ATI had a little better PAR but they are all pretty close.

4 bulbs on 90 gal

4 bulbs on 90 gal

I need to change out my bulbs. I was going to do this a few months ago, but couldn't figure out the right bulbs to get and then life got in the way. So I am back to trying to figure this out. My current setup is 4 bulbs (2 retrofit fixtures) with individual icecap reflectors running two 10,000K and two Actinic bulbs. The coloring is okay, but I never had the pop I have seen in other tanks on this site.

I don't really understand how to choose the color combination. How do I keep the green of my frogspawn, while showing off the blue of my juvi emperor angel, and still have enough red for my clowns, coraline algae, and the RBTA that I keep wanting to get.

Do I need to add a couple more bulbs to get what I want?

I tried reading throught this thread, but it is so long that I only got half way before deciding to post.

This is for my 90 gallon tank. Any insite or recommendations would be greatly appreciated (brands and/or color combination).

Thanks.
