The tang gods must hate me!

Ok, so I have something going on with my purple tang, that thankfully is in QT. I have another post regarding him. Check "No clue what's on my purple tang". Well, now I looked at my blonde naso in my DT and I think he has black ich!!! He keeps like shaking his body and fins and has the little brown/black dots and I think he may have already been scraping. Please please please tell me there is a reef safe treatment for this. I would hate to lose him, but I can't imagine losing my entire tank to this!! Now that I finally have my perfect livestock and am happy with the rock work. For some reason he is camera shy and when I am able to film him, the quality is awful with both my phone and camera.

Please please please help!!

I once gave one of the fish I had a freshwater dip. To do this you must match the PH and temp of the water. I had a planted tank which the ph has to be high so I lucked out.

In order to do the freshwater dip, I would need to be able to catch him first, which I don't think is a viable option.

In regards to the prazipro, is it truly reef safe? I have a pair of cleaner shrimp, starfish, snails, crabs, and corals. I am also concerned about my pods, as I have a mandarin - will the prazipro kill them?

The only thing I am aware of that Prazi kills in a reef is feather dusters/tube worms.

Ok, just bought Prazi. Can someone give me or point me in the right direction in regards to how to exactly dose and what can/can't be running (ex: skimmer, UV, carbon, etc). Thanks again!!! :)

Below you'll find the link to their website. I dose 1 teaspoon per 20 gallons. Wait 5 days, do at least a 25% WC, dose again. You dose once to kill the Turbellarians (Black Ich) and then a second time to kill the second generation from any eggs left behind. The 25% WC is to remove pollutants from the worms. No skimmer, UV, carbon, etc. while treating.

bobaboey - u are awesome! Thanks again! I looked at their website but I am a bit confused.
It says " Do not stop filtration, but remove activated carbon and stop foam-fractionation (protein skimming) and UV sterilization." -My question is, what filtration then CAN you use??

Then it says "A single treatment lasting 5-7 days is normally sufficient. Repeat as necessary, but no more than once every 3 to 5 days." So does this mean dose once, and after 5-7 days do a water change and repeat the dose?? What is their recommendation regarding 3-5 days? Is that for a bad outbreak and those that need to treat more quickly??

You can continue all of your biological filtration. So, if this is a reef or FOWLR then you can continue to run all your pumps, sump, etc. Or if you're running a power filter or canister, you can continue to use it. Just take any media out (like carbon).

Do exactly this: "dose once, and after 5-7 days do a water change and repeat the dose"

Prazi only kills the worms themselves, not the eggs they leave behind. So it's necessary to do a second dose 5-7 days after the first to kill the "second generation". The 5-7 day window is important to observe. Do the second dose before 5 days and you risk treating before the second generation hatches. Do it after 7 days and you risk the second generation having had time to lay eggs of their own...

bobaboey - u are awesome! Thanks again!

Good luck! And be sure to update this thread with the outcome, one way or the other. Seeing positive feedback on a successful treatment option will encourage others to follow the same path you are taking.

Will do! Thanks again so very much!! :) Today I did a 25% water change before dosing. In 5-7 days I will do another 25% water change and add the second dose. Keeping my fingers crossed that everyone makes it! :)

***Update***

Ok, not much to report, but perhaps what I am seeing is the norm? The good - all of the fish, corals, and inverts are alive and doing well. The bad - I haven't seen a reduction of the black/brown dots on the tang. His behavior hasn't changed much either, except less of the "flashing" and scratching. He does raise his dorsal fin at times - what does that mean? I know it's normal for tangs to do this, just never knew the reason. His appetite hasn't changed much either. I feed the tank Dr. G's anti worm frozen food, but of course he is the ONLY one that doesn't eat it. Is this normal? From what I gather, the worms aren't that bad and ich is much worse. I have had fish eat like pigs even when infected with ich.

Thanks again!!

Bump...just wanted to get some added input on what I'm seeing. Also, it doesn't seem like spots anymore, more like very short lines - does this sound right?

Ok, I think I may have spoken too soon :( I was away for a few days and just saw him and he has some spots/scratches now. It is only on one side, so I'm not sure if they are scratches or something else. Any help would as always be appreciated!! He has 2 spots only - the picture makes it look like he has more. I also took a short video, I apologize for the quality.

Possible secondary infection from the turbellarians (Black Ich). Your tang's immune system might be able to fight this off naturally or it might need antibiotics. However, unlike Prazi, antibiotics are not reef safe. For now, I would step up your WCs to maintain excellent water quality, and start soaking his food in a vitamin supplement such as Selcon or Zoecon. Doing both will aid his immune system.

Btw, how many rounds of Prazi did you treat with and how far apart did you space the treatments?

Ok, I started yesterday soaking in selcon. I have Dr. G's medicated food that I bought for the black ich - should I continue with it or no? Is Zoecon just as good as selcon? I can never find selcon in the stores, but if it's better I will order it as I am running low on it.

Thanks!
