The Time Is Finally Here...

Well hopefully we don't have to go through what Bama went through (a la Mike Price).....although I think we are close.

Urban was talking with the Patriots owner the whole time at your last basketball game Dave;)

IMO we are better off now if that's the way it was going to be.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for getting Muschamp and Kippy and Lance staying but we'll see what happens.

That's a good one Matthew... :)

I don't think that we'll get Muschamp... There have already been reports out that he turned down the offer... Word is that its going to be Troy Calhoun from Air Force... I know nothing about him...

I read that he wasn't interested earlier but there are also reports that Muschamp would be more than happy to listen for $3 million and that Cutcliff was Hamilton's next choice. Troy Calhoun is a good coach but I'm not sure how he would do in recruiting or in the SEC. Of course all the reports are rumor at this point but I take what Chris Low at ESPN says more seriously than the others.....but that's just me:)

After the press conference I feel a little better about him. He seems like the anti-kiffin as far as integrity, values, honesty, all of those things we normally look for in people that are worth paying attention to and we have been missing the last 14 months:)
I just hope he can coach. Hopefully the 7 years under Saban and having Vince Dooley as his father will help. I'm going to be my cautiously optimistic self and hope it works out well. We'll see how good a job he does at damage control in the next couple of weeks. Having so many early enrolees that have to sit out a year if they transfer might actually be something good Kiffin left us and help salvage something out of this recruiting class.......even though he did screw those kids over.
Chris

I'm skeptical...

Worried about experience as head coach since he didn't have the most impressive record at La Tech... I'm also worried about recruiting... I know he had top recruiting classes with Saban, but I like to worry... :D

Just listened to the press conference and read his bio. Here's what I think:

The good: He has a graduate degree and grew up in the SEC. He seems to respect the tradition, have some integrity, and class. He has the right temperament for UT. He used the "ph" word twice! He might be a good recruiter. Oh, and he's not David Cutliff.
The bad: Underwhelming head coaching record and experience. No name recognition. Quite simply, I'd think that UT should expect to be able to get a more proven commodity, or at least an up-and-coming commodity, like Meyer when he went to FL from Utah after winning a BCS bowl, or Pearl just after he took a nobody school to the sweet sixteen.
The ugly: Due to his surname, one of his ancestors must have drooled and had a lisp. Also, pedigree is only good for dog & pony shows, not coaching. :)

In short, I like the person, but will he be a good football coach?

I feel better about him after hearing his press conference... I hadn't heard it before my previous post... He said the right things in the right way... I guess like much else, time will tell...

I'm somewhat surprised by how many commitments stayed with TN even when we didn't have a head coach... Hopefully that will hold true and we can pick up some of the stragglers now that we do have one... :)

Just got back from the BBall game... quite a nailbiter. UT played really flat and we still pulled off an overtime win... good stuff!

he might do all right time will tell but i don't think he can recruit the type player's we need but he is a lawyer so maybe he can keep them out of jail

Hate that we lost Kippy....especially to Kiffin Senior:rolleyes:

This is the best article I've found on the whole deal and I spent a good portion of the day reading them all:)

I didn't get to see but bits and pieces of the Ole Miss game due to some cattle and goats that wanted to get sick but fro what I saw they were able to pull it out against a good team:)

Cregg and Reeves were let go by Dooley, Kippy resigned. From what I have read Thompson and Dooley have been seen together discussing things around campus so hopefully that's a good sign for keeping Thompson. I haven't heard anything about the rest.
