The wall must come down

I picked up my stand today. Hopefully i will be able to get it sanded and coated tomorrow. Thank you again Mark. I should have gone this route in the first place.

That stand looks like it's in the exact same spot as last night.

You got a moving crew for that bad boy yet??

It is still in the exact same spot. I wanted to leave it over night to cure. I am going to gather my girlfriends son and some of his friends to help move it in.

I believe my stand settled and caused the tank to twist just enough to crack the bottom panel. I decided on the steel stand for peace of mind as i know it will not twist or settle. Also Marineland has stepped up and are replacing it but they wanted it to go an a commercially built stand. I am also stripping the floor where the tank sits so there is no chance of tile breaking and settling under it.

For the lighting i used a piece of 1/2" C channel aluminum to bolt the reflectors to and then used a pair of the Sunlight Supply Sunlifts to hang them.

I do not mind the questions, if you have any others feel free to ask away.

do you think it would be a problem for a tank that size to go on brand new laminate floors? i don't want this happening to me, so to be safe i should go with a steel stand also? btw i really like how your lights are put up very simple design but i need to figure a way to put on t5 retros aswell

I dont see it being a problem putting the tank on laminate. I would recommend a steel stand, you can use a wood stand but if it is unlevel by as little as an 1/8" it can crack the bottom.

I am going to try running just halides for lighting and see how it goes. If the coral colors arent as good as i would like i am going to work on figuring a way to mount VHO's. I have thought about getting a sheet of aluminum and making my own fixture so to speak to encase all the lighting.

well thanks for the advice i've been dreaming of a 36inch deep tank for awhile now and can't wait till i get started but it'll be real tight fitting through a 32 inch door and no way i can get a metal stand of that size in there at least the tank i can rotate sideways but the stand seems impossible

I have the same issue. i only have 35" of clearance through my door. That is why the bottom braces on the side of the stand are up higher. That way i can stand it up and kind of rotate it into the doorway, move it through and rotate it out.
