Can you see what I see?

Measure it up.

Cut it up and look what I got....

drill a few other holes for some motion maker and seal the sob in, cut the grooves up top for the overflow, and here it is.....

Fill it with sand and water
IMG_2459.jpg

then go out to the garage and grab random metal halide and throw it up top with some bricks to give it that real white trash look....

the surface agitation...

Five hours after set up, and look how clear the water is.....

whaddya think?

Actually looks quite nice. At first glance, I thought that was a Niger Trigger in the clouded tank picture. I realized it was your hydor flow device later. Hope that your random halide will grow corals, it looks yellow in the pics. Nice job.

yeah i think it will, its a 175 watt metal halide with a pure white buld 20 in it, i think it will do just fine... i'm going to add two 18 inch actinics to it, hopefully it will get rid of that **** yellow look..

very nice. love the ingenuity. keep us updated with pics as it comes along, would love to see it mature.

AWESOME tank! haha great post man. So, does the new mailbox look like an acrylic overflow? lol

almost identical... it even has the same texture, kinda weird....

silicone

Whiskey Tango,

Nice work. You had clear water within 5 hours - great. How long did you let your silicone cure? 1 hr or 24?

I've got a project ready to go back in the tank, and I don't feel like waiting the full 24 if I don't have to.

i only waited a few hours, probably two at the max....

People can say what they want about your ingenuity but I had to spend 100.00 on an interior overflow box today. That mailbox looks mighty appealing at this point !

Very nice job, indeed !

I'd rather have a thrifty tank than no tank at all.

Can't wait to see it at 6 months !

I thought that was a niger trigger too. What a relief to see what it was a few pics later! Don't forget the beer bottle.

Pardon my asking, but what's the difference between white trash and redneck? I think it would be a hoot if someone made a big redneck reef similar to yours, with functional equipment but leaning heavily toward humorously tacky looking, like a Jeff Foxworthy joke. you could use hub caps for light reflectors and the stand could be made of cinder blocks.

well im not sure the difference, but i do know this.... I dont pay full price for anything, it doesnt show in the things that i have, but i just make it look that way.....For instance, total cost to build this nano tank is right at $50, and thats including the frags and the live rock and pretty much everything you see. I sold an old tank that i got for free and that paid for most of the stuff...Except the light, i got that from a buddy who was using it to light up his backyard, then i called another friend who happens to be an electrician and told him to bring me home a bulb, and now im waiting for him to bring me the actinics, and a blue buld to replace the MH light i have now. And all i am doing now is just building me a mini reef for practice, I'm currently building my own custom house "trailer" in a higher end neighborhood down here in texas, the only difference is, im only building the shell of the house and doing the entire inside myself, why i'll have $200,000 invested with a neighbor thats house is worth in the millions. (and in this house is going to be dual 250 gallon tanks with a 250 gallon refugium, and my entire budget for said project ive allowed is $5000). So for all the haters out there that think it cant be done, i shall prove them wrong. I just ran into four 1000 gph sump pumps for free, and a decorative lamp that im going to turn into my calcium reactor, and then im going to build my own chiller, the setup i have now for 90 gallons cost me $12, so im hoping to keep it in the $200 range for the big setup. But to answer your question about the beer bottle, the wife won't let me..... dang it....

how much do you want a bet he went mailbox smashing the night before he put that together and took one clean off its stand?
