i got the word from the man himself about what is going on over there.

The city had them engineer their tanks seizmic stabilty. and i guess it took them about a week for the engineer who was drawing them up to get them something practical that you can show fish in and be safe. after that was done the city OK'd it and they started the installation. it is a huge undertaking and it will take them around 4 days because of the large # of supports and the large size of the supports.

They hope to have an eta of the end of next week but things can happen so it isn't written in stone.

Now the good news. the old location is open for just fish right now. it will have the same hours as the other store untill they move the livestock to the new location. the new location has all the feed and premixed water. FYI

How many of our home tanks have seismic stability? I know mine is coming down if there's a big one.

That was sooooo funny that you said that..

My folks ALWAYS are talking about earth quake straps and what.. Jeepers, I can not have a conversation about fish without them talkiing about earthquakes..

So when I went to their house for x-mas.. One of the gifts they got me; earthquake straps....

About 3 years ago there was a big earthquake that hit Santa Barbara while I wa living there (epicenter was paso robles, I believe). I was at work, ran outside, and the rocking didn't stop for about 2 minutes. Ridiculously enough, I was thinking about my reef tank the whole time. I drove home right away. Amazingly enough, neither the 55g or the 44T (which stood close to 6' tall on a stand) toppled. I didn't hear about anyone in town, or out of town, having their tank fall over.

Straps can do more damage to aquariums then help they provide. It's best to allow the stand and tank to move on their own (as a whole), rather then strapping one. A bit of earthquake lip on the stand goes a LONG way :D

89' was my testing ground. I had several friends with set-ups. ONe was strapped and that was the one that ended up on the floor. Two blocks away, same type of ground, my friend lost 5 gallons out of his 55 and had some rock topple, that's it.

Gresham,

Please drop me an email, I brought you your frag disc that were specially made for you and the TMPCC you requested but....

You were not available to be reached in the afternoon and you stopped answering phone calls.....

come to think of it my older brother had a 55 fresh water setup then (98). his placo like to sit at the top of the tank and was splashed out. nothing else happend.

makes me feel a little better about mine.

I lost a few gallons of water out of a 100g discus tank on that one. Tank wasn't strapped, but no other problems.

Glad to hear Dolphin's old location is still open, I might drop by tonight to cash in my Xmas gift certificate on a nice bangaii.

Actually, since my current bangaii is from Jimsar's DBTC, I guess I'm sort of obligated to encourage him/her to breed! Yeah, that's it, that's why I MUST go buy a fish. ;)

As for earthquaking. I gotta go add a lip to my stand. The tank is right at the edge of the stand (which my wife forced me to BUY instead of me making my own, and I'm still bitter because the stand sucks).

But I digress, I can't wait until the new Dolphin opens!
