the world is watching Nik Wallenda cross the 'falls

He said that his next venture will be to walk accross the Grand Canyon. He said that he already has the permit in place. The walk will be aprox. one mile long and will take place aprox. 1400ft high. He's one calm and collected dude though.

F me that was boring. Him yapping the whole time was maddening. The harness was lame. Half the deer hunters i know have a better chance of dying falling out of a treestand.

Missed it. How many times did they play the clip of gramps plunging to his death? Totally disturbing. I'm as sick and morbid as the next guy, actually, much sicker. I think it's disgusting the way tv uses that clip to get ratings. Poor guy.

Anyway, good for nik!

Anyone ever hike, fish, or go rock climbing down in the gorge below the falls? Great spot!

Lake trout, brown trout, largemouth, salmon, suckers. Supposedly muskie run there in the summer, but I've yet to see or catch one there.

I just started fishing it maybe six months ago and have probably been out a dozen times. I did some dock fishing growing up, but the first time I pulled a big fish out of the lower niagara my mind just about exploded at the size and power. I'm always surprised there aren't more people fishing it- I bet it's some of the better freshwater fishing there is. Again though, the stairs and the wicked current may be prohibitive to some.

Also sturgeon & steelhead. Good luck though if you get into a 100+ pound sturgeon from shore. I saw a guy hook into one two years ago while fishing kings. We didn't see that boat for 6 hours. Met up with them at the cleaning station. The fish took them all the way into the lake before they got it aside the boat.

If you haven't gone fishing for the kings and live anywhere near WNY, do it. You need to book a QUALITY captain a year in advance. It's extreme fishing. I cannot stress enough doing research and getting a captain that has many years of experience -- not only to get on the right drifts but to keep you alive.

People come from all over the world for the king season. Best time is late September to mid-October but it depends on the river temp. When it drops ~1.5 degrees, they start coming in. You really want to get in there when they are their freshest. Late and the season, they start to metamorphis and don't have much fight... When they are fresh & breeding, they will kick your butt.

I personally thought the walk across the falls was cool. Fishing is boring for me. Maybe there is something wrong with me.

I thought the falls stunt was kewl, too

I mean... we've ALL stood right there where he crossed and we all know how heavy that mist can be!

That might have been the most boring thing I've ever seen! Granted- mist, slippery wire, etc. Go to the circus- at least they do flips and such. Would've been better if he was fishing while he walked the cable.

I think it took more guts for him to be thanking and praising God in front of millions of people, than to walk that wire. That's what impressed me the most.

Good for you Nik!!!

I don't know if I agree with THAT.

I thank and praise God every day I wake up alive! :lolspin:
