Thin Chaeto, Missing Cardinals

Reef of Fillory

New member
Good afternoon RC,

I purchased 3 bangaii cardinals, which all ate the first 1-2 days in the aquarium.

Prepping to sell my house, so don't have a QT set up, put right in to main display.

One went missing, then the second went missing. Found the first one stuck to the intake of a powerhead [dead].

Then the third went missing. Can't find 2 of the bodies. I have around 30 snails in my tank [nassarius(16-20), a couple of turbo (2-4) and cerith (12-16)]

My corals and other fish have been happy and have showed no change.

The 2 snowflake clowns I have are acting normally, and were not aggressive towards any of the cardinals at introduction or throughout the few first days. The Royal Gramma has also been acting normal, and no spots/scrapes/missing fins etc. for any of the remaining fish

Any ideas as to what happened to these fish? I'm worried about ammonia from their bodies. I did a 25 gallon WC last night with Prime while siphoning out GHA (brown, comes off the rock easily) as well as some cyano and a thicker 'gel-like' algae off of some of the rocks.

I also have noticed that my Chaeto in my sump has new growth, but also is thinning out. I have found many small pieces in my GFO reactor [plugging it] and i've found pieces in my DT that have come loose and been pumped through the return.

Here are a few videos I took last night

Is this normal behavior for clownfish? They do this every night when the lights start to turn off:

As long as it's a cycled tank, I wouldn't worry about ammonia from a couple of small fish. Tiny/small bangaii's are easily sucked onto the filter screen.

Found something in my chaeto today, not sure what it is, but it was slightly form, but squishy. I am thinking that it's some type of sponge, but really have no idea whether this might be good or bad.

Found this on one of my rocks, does this look like Pseudocorynactis? Found a thread on another forum with a picture that looked a little similar saying this has a nasty sting and is bad (if it is Pseudocorynactis)
