think you dont have CBS HD b/c you have charter? think again

haha

no idea, I didn't get a PM or anything

huh

I was wondering how there were 0 replies and you were the last to post

lol

I looked into direct tv and dish network when I moved last month.

Since I have no landline telephone in the first place and you can call charter at any time and if you spend enough time on the phone your bill will be at least 10% lower when you hang up I stuck with them.

I pay $100 a month for charter and I get the biggest package, their hd tier, dvr and the 5mb internet. Locked in for 12 months.

I can live without cbs in hd as their programming has slipped in recnet times anyway, although the ncaa tourney was missed in hd

I was hoping you had answers leighton. I think charter carries CBS in HD othe rplaces but the issue here in st louis and a few other cities is the media company that owns the local cbs affiliates is holding out for some $$$$

when I posted the message I got the BS about the server being busy, so maybe it didnt take the message

here is the condensed version

as bill said, I just bought the $10 UHF antenna and plugged it in and instantly got every over the air HD channel (including CBS)

but my friend one upped me and he just plugged his regular cable into the antenna input, so now he can change his TV input to "air" or "antenna" and he gets CBS HD by using charter's cable as the antenna

so as long as your TV has a built in HD tuner, you're good to go for March Madness and the masters

Right, with a HD (UHF) antenna you should be able to pick up all digital locals as long as you have an ATSC (HD) tuner in your television. THe only catch is that you will need to change the input which can be a pain if you are a channel flipper. Another option is that some satellite/cable/tivo boxes have an antenna input on them. If you plug into that input then the box may integrate the OTA locals with the satellite/cable menu and no input switching is required.

If you do go with the antenna route, check out www.antennaweb.org and it will help you aim your antenna to get the best reception on all the OTA channels.

thanks for the heads up on the cable box antenna input mike

I'll have to look at mine

right now I only use the antenna for CBS, so when I want to watch CBS HD I just switch the input, but it would be nice not to

I do not believe the Charter boxes allow this function of running an antenna through the box and thus into their menu, I hope someone can prove me wrong.

My tv does not have an HD tuner so I am stuck either way. Thats whats great about the stalitte boxes, they act as an HD tuner if your TV does not have one.

Hmm...

This is VERY interesting! If I could figure out how to get CBS HD my hubby would love me!

I have a HD tv - but with Charter I have just their basic digital service because I wanted to use my TIVO boxes. Do you think it's possible to go get the HD antenna that you're referring too - plug it into the back of my TIVO and then we'll be able to get the HD channels?

if the Tivo has an "ant in" or "air in" input that looks like normal cable then it does

my series 2 non-HD tivo does NOT have that input, I obviously can not speak for newer or HD tivos
