Thinking about attempting A nigripes again

I have been keeping clowns for a long time now and am interested in attempting A. Nigripes again. My first attempt was several years back and they arrived in pitiful shape and I was not able to get them to survive more than a couple of days. They arrived with one of the worst looking cases of brook cases I'd ever seen and things only got worse from there.

I have been lurking around forums planning my next tank and am really interested in hearing any experiences you have and any tips you may have in getting them past the first couple of months of quarantine. I am going to quarantine them and was considering doing your typical hypo/formalin treatment. If you know of any special quarantine procedures that would increase my chances of success please let me know.

I don't intend to attempt keeping a H. Magnifica with them but am curious if you have had luck getting any other anemone species to host these clowns.

thanks.

I didn't think that they are any harder to keep than any other clown ? We get them frequently in the UK ( I have a spawning pair in a magnifica) without any apparent issues.

I got them in several times working in fish retail for other hobbyists and once for myslef and never had luck. We are a lot further away from the collection range of these fish and I am sure the shipping is much harder on them for us. Did you do any special quarantine procedures?

No special quarantine. The LFs where I bought them have their own QT tanks. I just selected two small ones and a few months later at approx 1 1/2" long they spawned ! Been at it regularly since then.

wow. thats incredible, really. i tried several under a barrage of different QT methods. every attempt failed. the two i was successfully able to maintain came from two different parts of the US and each had been in captivity for several years prior to being shipped to me.

james, if you find some let me know. ive been trying to get my hands on a family of them for quite some time.

I will let you know. Anyone tried Blue zoo aquatics? They seem to get them from time to time and people seem to be happy with other species of clowns that they sell.

They are beautiful fish...good luck. Maybe aquarists like you and LesMartin can eventually breed and raise them and provide the market with some good, hardy specimens.

I cannot really comment because my 7 year old was ORA tank bred. It has associated with E. quadricolor, H. malu and H. crispa. There are guy's here who have them with S haddoni.
Last spring ORA told me they started working with them again. Did see tank bred on ThatFishPlace dot com ~may or june. Haven't seen 'em since, you may want to inquire ORA of them.
A lfs had one for the longest time, could still be there but they don't ship. Also came across one at ocean gallery II ~two weeks ago. Looked healthy and they ship.

Just for you guys !
