It's normally $299.

Lightroom 3 beta is out right now, free for everyone - and it works till April of next year.

That's what I'm doing, then I'm just going to pick up LR 3

The only problem with that is that, if they do what they did with the 2.0 beta, your beta catalog won't be upgradeable. In other words, all your work on your existing catalog will be toast when the beta expires.

Yeah that is a bit weak on Adobe's part that they don't make sure catalogs work cross versions. However you can always write the changes to XMP, that way you can just recreate the catalogs without too much trouble and loss.

It's beta software. Until it actually releases the catalog format is subject to change. When 3 actually comes out you'll be able to upgrade your 2.x catalog.
