hey i found a guy willing to sell me a 90 mpdi four stage unit made by SpectraPure with tds meter for 100 bucks only used to fill 140 gallon tank one time. good deal?

Matt, you're always looking for a deal. With that one, you're taking the word of someone, I take for granted, you may not know. You most likely also have no warranty.

If you buy one from Jeff, not only do you have support that you know, if there's a problem with the unit, it will have a warranty.

Personally, I'd go with something I know won't cause me hassles.

That's just me though.

ya your probly right, im going to have to bite the bullet and spend the extra 30 bucks and your right if it fs up then i got the warnty and i know the people out aqua world are a huge help.

filters for that ro are very expensive and if they all need replaced it will be alot of money. just the ro membrane is a 100 bucks http://www.spectrapure.com/St_replac_p3.htm
why would you NEED to buy that membrane..it should be just a standard size membrane. no need to waste all that on a membrane. Can get one that will work for $36

I know the guy that is selling that. He was in the club for a time. He is a good guy, I have known him for 10+ years.

Based on this, I would say the guy is telling the truth, and $100 is a good deal. I'd say go for it.

Yep - thats the same unit I posted for matt in another thread from Reefchili on ebay - where he could get it for $100 plus $10 shipping (Reefchili = Bulkreefsupply - they list some of their items on ebay and if patient, you can save some $). Alas, Matt continues to look for a deal from some unknown stranger.

While I see Ray's vouch for this guy, a RO/DI unit is not something I would buy used (especially since you can get a new one for the price he is asking) given its hard to know the age / life of the filters and RO membrane

+1 A lot of times the cost of new membranes and filters come close the cost of a new unit. I'd rather just buy the unit brand new to have the new filters...But that's just me.

Buying used units is a mixed bag. Can be a good deal if you carefully check into the condition of EVERY filter stage so that you know what you are going to need to replace right off the bat. The used system you are looking at uses standard sized filters that you can purchase from many vendors.
