Thinking about capping off my closed loop......

They will not completely seal without something in the threads. Generally teflon tape is discouraged for PVC, but in this case, that is about the only thing that you can use that will be inert and not interact with the tank water.

So use a couple layers of the pink teflon tape and screw them in.

Steve, they should work. I plugged a hole in my sump with one. Even if it leaked, the salt creep would seal it. Depending on what's under the tank that might work for you or it might not.

Hey steve just a heads up when i was messing around with my bottom bulk heads redoing the plumbing i accidentally let one bulk head twist ever so slightly and it started leaking like crazy, scariest moment i ever had! Just keep that in mind when your trying to thread a pvc plug in it takes quite a bit if force.

yeah my two biggest concerns are the bulkhead shifting and then being able to reach to 4 on the back panel. I would have to lay across the top of the tank and probably use a mask and snorkel in order to effectively reach those. My experience with the Vectra pump did not go as well as I had hoped. Ecotech was awesome with customer service but we could not prevent the pumps from triggering internal temp alerts. I am very happy with the end resolution but now I am faced with either retrofitting a different pump or capping the closed loops. I don't want to just leave the lines closed at the ball valves because I am concerned about how much detritus will build in those lines.

How low are the bulkheads? Honestly, I'd be hesitant about this. Trying to screw the cap in with the pressure of water coming out wouldn't be that fast and before you even put the cap in, a lot of water is going to be gushing out of a 1" hole near the bottom.

How far are the valves from the bulkheads? Any bends in between them? You could just do a weekly turkey basting in it if they are close and put the cap behind them as an extra precaution.

If you are happy to leave the ball valves in place. Having a finger tight cap with some plumbers tape will be fine. I wouldnt even worry about it for a second as the ball value is a nice little back up.

If you are trying to remove the ball valve as well, you will need to tighten up a little more. This may or maynot cause the bulk head to move/leak.
