Thinking about downgrading...

Well guys, after a couple months of having my 55 up, I am thinking about downgrading until I have my own place and am not living with relatives anymore...

Do you think there's anyone out there that has at minimum a 24g nano cube with decent lighting that would be willing to trade up for a 55g with stand? The tank is NOT drilled, I'd be willing to throw in the emperor 400(i think, might be the 350. needs new cartridges) and a modded maxi-jet 1200. And possibly the AquaC Remora w/ surface skimmer box if the deal is right...

I plan on keeping all of my live rock and live sand for the new tank if I can find anyone willing to trade...

What's your guys' opinions on this?

I downsized considerably... From 90g to around 25g... get yourself a sleek looking tank, and you won't mind the smaller system.

I'm really wanting to get a nano cube of some sort, something all inclusive... I'd like the 28G HQI JBJ Nano Cube but I can't afford 600$...

I'm trying to downgrade to cut some costs and stuff...

how can 29 be that much cheaper than a 55 to run. just stick with what you got.your already 2 months in, why start all over again.

Benny, pm me....my buddy has my old nano 24g....it like new....He wants to upgrade to a bigger tank....maybe youcan work some deal out......do you have a pic of the tank?

If you read my post then you would have noticed that I said "downgrading until I have my own place and am not living with relatives"

That'd be the key phrase in this post...
How can it not be cheaper? Instead of buying 6-10gallons of water for changes and top offs, I'd only need to buy 3-4. I won't use as much salt, I want use as much electricity... Maybe you oughta re-think your post....

Another reason being, I'm on a fixed income, I currently do not have a fuge/sump, or enough live rock in the tank... Therefore more cash needed to be spent...

I'll send you a pm BrunstuckyJoe..

And sorry I do not have any pictures right now but I'll take some within a day or 2.

Given the reasons you have mentioned, a smaller tank does sound more practical for your application.

However, why the hostility? Many nano setups can be surprisingly pricey. I think silver was trying to be constructive by saving you the expense of a new setup.

There's a huge "it depends" right there...

Sure if you go full blown reef, with controllers, reactors, top end lighting, etc... it can be every bit as expensive as a large tank. However, if you're looking at something like a small softy reef or small FOWLR. You probably won't even need a skimmer, and some PC lighting will get you by. Not to mention a small system would be much more mobile than a large system.

Sometimes a move to a smaller tank is the better alternative. The saying seems to be "bigger is better" but depending on the situation, it's not always the most practical choice.

Just my .02 :)

Sorry I was not trying to be hostile in anyway, just thought that I had made it clear on my reasons for downgrading, again sorry. No hostility from me.

no reason to rethink my post you asked for an opinion. i think you should of thought about this 2 months ago before you set this up.
If you don't like my opinion no big deal just disregard it.

But if a couple of jugs of water and some salt are gonna tax you that much maybe you should just take everything down till you get in a better situation.

Well I've pretty thought everything over, I think my first step is going to be trying to find some more live rock...

nah... it's no big deal. Once your tank is established, downgrading or upgrading is only as simple or as difficult as you want to make it. ;)

Took me 24hrs to transfer all the livestock from my 90g to the new 30g cube.
