Thinking about getting...

A Linkia starfish. I would like some thoughts and opinions from everyone. Are they as hard to keep as everyone says? I know BK and faz both have one. How did you guys acclimate. and do they knock over all your corals?

As you said I have mine for the last 4 or 5 months and it's doing great.

I took my time when I was acclimating it. I did the drip method for about 3 hours. Overkill but better safe then sorry....

I have no issues with the Linckia knocking over stuff but the fish are brutal on my coral.

Thats good to hear though I am a little worried about it, most of my LPS is just stuck in holes in the rock and I'm afriad if it hits a frogspawn or something like that with it's arm it will knock it out.

when you drip acclimate

1. how do you keep the water from getting cold

2. does your top off kick on and lower your salinity


I havent been able to solve those two problems during drip acclimation in the past.......just wondering

1) The temperature change has never been a problem for me.

2) I add pre-made saltwater in an equal amount to the water used when acclimating. I would think this would only be a problem in a really small tank. I have a 58G without autotopoff and frequently add three gallons of topoff water.

1. I re-float the bag after I verify PH and SG match.
For long acclimations I float the bag in the sump and drip from the DT

2. I disable my ATO while acclimating and top-off with saltwater when I'm finished.

I've had mine for 1.5 years. It seems to be just fine. As far as I know, it has never knocked over a coral or caused any other problems.

Awesome great information! I think I am gonna try one this week, I figure I will DA from the DT into the sump for temp. ANd do that for an hour or so!

Does anyone direct feed them specific?

Considering that their diet is unknown, it may be difficult to do.

here is mine, got it from nemos pet store, had one for 1.5 years now and the other for 8 months, seem to be a algae film eater or detritus, cause always on glass or rocks.
