Like was said Adam, these problems will settle down in time. I was battling Aiptasia for the longest time in my 55g and finally won when the GHA killed them all off... two, 3 day, lights off cycles has worked for the GHA and things are getting back to normal. This tank is FINALLY starting to maturing into its own little ecosystem after 19+ months! I will be glad with my 185 gets to this point!
One thing that I have worked at and still working to achieve is a having low maintenance systems; I enjoy maintaining my tanks, but to a limit. I have a crazy job and other hobbies that take up a lot of my time and heavy maintenance has no place! Our ultimate goal is to enjoy or tanks, our little piece of ocean in our house in the desert. Look at what you could do to decrease your maintenance times and cost of maintenance and it will reward you. If you have to change fish, equipment etc, figure out what you can do to make it less of a hassle and more of an enjoyment. I know you guys have a baby on the way next month, so less hassle and expense will be mandatory.
Dude, your tank is stunning, it stops my in my tracks every time I see it!! I really look forward to seeing it mature and in time it will. You and family are way too attached to it anyway and you'd just end up buying another tank, probably bigger than this one... besides, having three kids (3??) and a fourth on the way, you'll need all the peace and relaxation only a reef can give!
Hang in there dammit!
