Thinking about possibly selling

I love it, but I have little time.

I am constantly fighting algae, ( test low phosphates and nitrates, use RODI water )

Cyano

Constant Diatom blooms.

I guess I am tired of always doing things to help with the algae rather then enjoying the tank.

Yea I hear ya. I currently have a 90 and I'm tired of dealing with Cyano. Im running GFO, have an rodi unit, feed only every 2 days, have good flow and still have cyano and now a dark green algae on the sandbed. Done a few 3 day lights out and those dont help either. Im thinking of getting dry rock and cycling it then replacing the rock I have in there now. It must be leeching phosphate or something

your tank is still fairly new. give it time to mature and those problem will slowly go away as everything stabilizes. Rather than fighting it, just give it time and not try to do so much.
remind yourself to have some patience, isn't that what we tell anyone new to this hobby?
My system looks better when I leave it alone for a few days :)

I will sell complete as for tannk and all equipment. Live stock etc

Will part but certain things would have to go together

Haven't decided 100%

Adam what is your lighting and lighting schedule?
I cut back light time to from 9 to 7 hours and my algae issue is gone.

Wow no way!!!!! You've been doing so many upgrades lately...

I agree with Francis though. The system is young and hasn't stabilized optimally yet esp with adding new equipment regularly like you were doing. I k ow if I leave my system alone and the less I mess with it the better stuff looks.

I was fighting bryopsis for 9 months. I wanted to tear it down every time I looked at it. I eventually won the battle but lost the war (lots if dead zoas and corals and many given away). But now its amazing in there!

Give it time

Fought Calpuera forever, took every piece of rock out and cured it for a month or two at a time :( Took a while and sucked but not (Knock on wood) most Calpuera is gone and enjoying the tank. I say fight on! :)

cree 3watt Leds 2:1 Ratio currently on for ten hours, I can easily cut it down to what every.

I will cut the time down to 7 hours see what happens. it ramps up and ramps down parabola pattern

10 hours in my opinion is too long. Cut it back slowly. Like 1 hour a week till you see algae is gone. Cutting back light time works both for my 12G and My buddy's 2.5G.

its not full power for 10 hours. it starts at 9% ramps up all day till 3pm ( High Noon ) which is 65% blue 35% white then ramps down.

no different situation then the sun coming up and setting. ( actually less hours. )

Like was said Adam, these problems will settle down in time. I was battling Aiptasia for the longest time in my 55g and finally won when the GHA killed them all off... two, 3 day, lights off cycles has worked for the GHA and things are getting back to normal. This tank is FINALLY starting to maturing into its own little ecosystem after 19+ months! I will be glad with my 185 gets to this point!

One thing that I have worked at and still working to achieve is a having low maintenance systems; I enjoy maintaining my tanks, but to a limit. I have a crazy job and other hobbies that take up a lot of my time and heavy maintenance has no place! Our ultimate goal is to enjoy or tanks, our little piece of ocean in our house in the desert. Look at what you could do to decrease your maintenance times and cost of maintenance and it will reward you. If you have to change fish, equipment etc, figure out what you can do to make it less of a hassle and more of an enjoyment. I know you guys have a baby on the way next month, so less hassle and expense will be mandatory.

Dude, your tank is stunning, it stops my in my tracks every time I see it!! I really look forward to seeing it mature and in time it will. You and family are way too attached to it anyway and you'd just end up buying another tank, probably bigger than this one... besides, having three kids (3??) and a fourth on the way, you'll need all the peace and relaxation only a reef can give!

Hang in there dammit!

Having the exact same problem right now, lighting and feeding have been the same for years now but all of a sudden diatoms and GHA that can't be controlled. Running GFO and Carbon with testing showing 0 on PO4 and NO4 SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you looked into an algae scrubber? I just bought one for my system and after doing all the research, I can't wait to try it out :)

Also as several have said, I'm not sure how old your system is.. but the blooms should all go away after about a year, and the pretty purple should take over after that. The blooms we experience early on are mainly caused by our American "want it now" mentality, rushing in the lights, fish, and corals before the tank is actually ready and fully cycled to fight such blooms. If possible, it is best to run the tank with nothing but live rock/sand for the first 3-6 months for that to happen. But where is the fun in that?! :)

This is my third tank, all rock was in a system for over a year prior.

I have a algae turf scrubber, it produces nasty stuff. I do need to make a bigger one though.

I have had all the major algae outbreaks already, everything cleared up and started flourishing. then again now having algae issues again. corals are growing great. fish are fat and healthy
