Coraline will grow as the tank ages, eventually you will say to yourself "this coraline is a major pain" It looks nice, but it consumes CA/ Alk and is a pain to get off the walls. If i were you i would go on your local club forums and find someone selling some liverock. Heck you can order some online and do the rest dry that way you dont have to worry about alot of bad algae / aptasia...ect

I have about 10 different kind of zoo's on my floor and im just waiting for them to spread. One guy on here has a yuma garden with hundreds on his BB. Its quite awesome, ill see if i can find it

I wish my area had a decent forum or club, but sadly there isn't much here and trust me i've searched alot with no luck. I guess im one of the weird ones around here lol.

Yes please i'd like to see how that persons tank looks like

I voted stay BB. I thought I missed the look of sand...added it... HATED IT. Removed it. Throw a bunch of ricordia covered rocks on the floor and be done with it :)

What about this. Get some starboard, mix up a batch of sand / epoxy so it LOOKS like it has sand but it is really bare bottom but with the sand texture. Its been done by alot of people and looks just like sand.

Stay BB. I switched 4 years ago. Never going back to sand.

I like the methodology of going bare bottom, but not the aesthetics... here are some ways I deal with it...

Stay away from sand... go with crushed coral if you want something down... but keep it gravel washed every month or two... this is a 60 gallon I have churned up by two MP10s, and just enough crushed coral to make it look natural...

Or you could do as Peter suggested... I am bare bottom in my sps display but you wouldn't know it... as I am ric bottom... :)

My subtropical tank has black Starboard... another option that looks better than white Starboard or glass...

Sory it was korallenwelt frag stones not korallen zucht. You can google it " korallen welt frag stones ". It looks more natural than bb, more clean than dsb.

I have a 1/4 to 1/2 inch sand bed and I think it's ideal for looks and maintenance. I don't have to vacuum it but I just stir it around randomly with a wooden spoon every couple of weeks before doing a waterchange. My powerheads, fish, and pistol shrimp will shift and move the sand around as well which gives the tank a nice natural feel since I imagine that sand in nature will shift with the current on a regular basis. The only thing I can't do is keep any frags or small corals on the sand bed.
