Thinning mushroom population in tank

Hey guys. I've had my tank up for about five years and in that time I've had some mushrooms grow to 4"-5" diameters. I would like to remove some of these monsters and am wondering how to go about removing them without removing the LR from the tank.

I've cut some mushrooms off my LR outside of the tank and know that they 'spit' out a lot of liquid when you put them under stress. Will this liquid cause problems in my tank if they choose to release it when I remove the mushroom from the LR?

I am sure he is saying to run alot of carbon..... (or atleast thats what I would do..) I am not sure what GAC stands for though...

I would be more than happy to pay shipping for a few... LOL... (hey I had to ask)

Depending on the mushrooms types that you have in your tank (you didn't say what kind you have), the discosoma and rhodactis types can be slowly peeled away from the rock just like what you would do for removing an anemone. It will make them unhappy for awhile, especially if they have been established for a long time. Placing higher current on them (not blasting, but high) will cause them to shrink up a bit which makes it easier to see their "foot". As long as the rocks surface is fairly smooth, you shouldn't cause them much damage. If the rock is very pockmarked and the foot goes in and out of the holes of the rock, you probably won't have very good luck with it.
