I believe the markings are in place to get their UL listing and to lower their liability. I personally have run my Jagers on the bottom of tanks for years. One that is now in storage is over 20 years old and finally got turned off after I tore down the breeding tanks. If you don't feel comfortable though, don't do it. Buy a few titanium probe style heaters and sleep better at night.

Since every large tank build thread has at least one pic showing boxes of Tunze stuff and Aqua Controller stuff they bought for their tank, I figure I better have one too.

If I bought that at once I would have to buy double, so when I lost half of it in the divorce I could still set up the tank.
Nice system by the way, I am building a large tank room in the house right now and have learned quite a lot from your thread.

At this point, I have pretty much exhausted my budget, so I am not sure what I am going to do about a skimmer. I talked to the people at Premium Aquatics, and they told me that the new Reeflo 18" diameter 48" tall skimmer should be out in 4 months. My current plan is to wait until it comes out (or at least until final pricing is disclosed) and then make my decision. I will probably end up with either a shorty Volcano or the big Reeflo. It will just depend on the costs.

My tank is ALIVE! The temp just hit 77, and I decided to add a piece of live rock. I took a little piece from my current tank's sump and put it in the new tank's sump.

Ok, now that the tank is cycling (and I don't have much to do besides wait), it is time for me to make some overdo updates.
My RODI system is set up near the faucet and the drain in the furnace room. It is a 6 stage unit. It starts with a 5 micron sediment filter, and then a 1 micron sediment filter. Then it goes to a refillable carbon gac filter and then a chlorine guzzler filter. From there it goes to a Dow Filmtec 75 gpd ro membrane. It finishes with color change DI in a refillable canister. The unit is from air water ice . com, but I DO NOT recommend purchasing from them. I have had many issues with their filters, and now do all of my RODI shopping with buckeyefieldsupply.com They have good prices and service.
I also have a dual inline TDS meter hooked up. It is set up to measure the output after the RO and the output after the DI. This lets me do an occasional test to make sure everything is working up until the DI and that the DI is still working. I also use a hand held meter to double check the inline meters, since I have heard that they can be very inaccurate.
If I had it to do all over again, I would have purchased a unit with all clear housings. Being able to look inside gives piece of mind, and it lets you see when your sediment and DI need replacing.

I put two little shelves up in the furnace room for the halide ballasts. By being in the furnace room (although it is only truly seperated from the fish room by a few layers of plastic) it should keep some of the heat away from the tank.
The ballasts are dual PFO HQI 400w halide balasts. They overdrive the bulbs, and get a little more par and a little whiter spectrum, with the Radium bulbs I am running. I mounted a fan next to them, so that the heat would dissipate. The fan will run only when the ballasts are on. I have had one of the ballasts, in a third dual unit that I own, go bad. However, for the price, I decided to continue to use PFO HQI ballasts for the time being.
Below the shelves you can see the drain lines from the tank going through the furnace room to get to the opposite side of the fish room, where the sump sits.

One thing i noticed about your RODI unit was there was no pressure gauge, or at least i didn't see one. I have clear canisters and can visually see when it's time for them to be changed but i also have a pressure gauge before the RO membrane, usually when the filters are really nasty the pressure going to the membrane is considerably lower than normal. It might be something to think about getting being you don't have clear canisters.

I have seen those before, but I never actually knew what the point of them was.
Now that I am going to be processing more water than I have been in the past, it might be worth getting to make sure I am getting the most life out of my filters. Waverz, you have now joined Ryan Nielson on my S$!T list. This weekend he was talking about getting a Wii and the next thing I knew I was on ebay buying one. Now I have to get a pressure gauge. Thanks alot :mad2:

Thats ok brad Ill take the blame for the wii but you have to keep it at my house now.The girs forum is planning a local tank tour so I volunteered my tank and yours and then back to my house for food and poker and bs ing sound good??Ryan

I haven't heard anything about this ( I prefer to only use RC), but I am definitely up for a poker game. I am not sure about being in the tank tour yet, since right now I am still cycling.
