this coral is just unreal

Zowie!!!

Too bad he doesn't do much in the aquaculture area, a piece that unique really should be fragged and aquacultured rather than just sold to whomever wants to throw down the most money.

IMO it's just the white balance being effected by the lighting :D Every piece I've seen from RM has been nearly WYSIWYG to the "T" :D

There is no "T" in WYSIWYG. :smokin:

My guess is that in 6 months, that coral resurfaces as a purple polyped rainbow monster, and commands 500 a frag.

Really? From what I've read, the reviews are very mixed. Although, I hear their photographer's very talented. Obviously:)

Someone had posted that reducing the color saturation on the pics by 30% gives a more accurate representation of the RM corals.

At the bottom of one of the pages it mentions all pictures are taken under a 1000w 20000k & 400w 20000k bulb, so if you are in that 20000k fan club more power to you. However I'm unsure of camera's abilities to accurately represent reflected light from bulbs that blue.

white balancing is an art, a very hard one at that in photography.

the most sure way to represent the color exactly as seen is using white balance cards in the exact location of the coral. once set, you will get the exact and true color.

if i were to ever photograph corals for sale, that's what I would do, because you'll get exactly what you see.

IMo the only way anyone would belive you, is if you included the white balance card (which I use sometimes) in the pic, along with the coral :D

yeah, that's very true. as long as they can see the card, something that's pure white (like pvc), then that should do it.

also maybe an object that's very common place and colorful floating in the prop tank too ;)

What would be really funny is if you masked the white balance card in Photoshop, applied the appropriate psychedelic color settings to the coral, and then put the white balance card back into the picture :p
