This is a stupid question, but i have to ask.

My LFS has a 1" undulated trigger, i have a 3" peacock. What are the possibilites that they would get along. I am pretty sure that eventually the trigger would get the best of the mantis, but i just had to ask.

I dont think at that size of 1" that trigger would do anything serious but when it gets bigger I would take it out. I have fish with my spearer and they have so far got along...

Whatever I drop into Dagon's tank gets hits before it even hits the sand, and he's my 3.5" O.scyllarus. I wouldn't give a 1" trigger a chance in that situation. I'm not the biggest fan of triggerfish (I don't hate them or anything, they just aren't as my faves...), but I wouldn't put one of the buggers in with a mantis.

i think the problem is that once they trigger goes into investigate, WHACK....you might have some problems... My undulate loves crustaceans and I believe it would be tempting for the undulate to stay away....

Ive had my undulate for about a year and a half, and she is just now getting to be around 4 inches... When i got her she was about 2 inches, so in a year, I doubt a 1 inch undulate will get hat back because they are such slow growers... I have full confidence that my undulate would be able to take out and holds its own to just about anything...HOWEVER, The real question is where these two would meet??? If the trigger was just dropped in the tank, and the mantis had the homefield advantage I think the mantis would, with little doubt, have the first strike. However, every one lived in a 55 or 75 gal with a divider and both were established, then one day the divider was pulled out, such that it was more even territory, the odds would be more interesting. I did read of a pair of large mantids taking out 4 queen triggers in a night at a lfs though...

I also think an eel would be an interesting battle as well....

But for the trigger, My money is still on the O. Scyllarus.
