This is just evil.

I just paid R380 for a 64oz bottle of Kent Marine Tech-M at an LFS (the typical price here). Translated, that is USD 56.

A 128oz bottle goes for USD 20 on Marine Depot. That is R135.... And the 64oz bottle is USD15 - R101... Why is it almost 4 times as expensive in South Africa? It is not even like salt where one can add the extra cost on shipping expenses....

Why not just use Epsom Salt? A bag here in the states is like $3 and it would make 1000 bottles of Tech-M. MANY chemicals we use in our tanks are basically in-expensive everyday items repackaged in a bottle with a cool pic of a coral on it and priced through the roof.

Check out Randy's 3 part recipe for the exact ingredients. Heck, for $56 usd you could have had enough ingredients shipped to your door to last you a year.

Yep, or virtually any drug store or grocery store. Very common in the states, I'd think you should be able to find it in South Africa fairly easy.

A wonderful thing a wife is :) She just told me that one can find a bag of 1kg for R8 at our local supermarket store.

Now the other question... Based on Randy's recipe I should dissolve 8 cups in to 1 gallon of RO water. Is this then at the same concentration than Kent-M?

I also see Randy's recipe asks for USP grade salt... I found an online store - they sell USP grade Epsom salt for USD 176 for 1g, or USD 176000 per kg :o

Link here...

I guess normal supermarket grade epsom salt would do the trick, too??

I believe as long as it is food grade you are fine. USP is just a company that sets standards for the quality of various products (medicines, etc.) sold in the United States.
