Oh my gosh....I would never put a gigas in a tnak that small. I know clam freaks that are scared to put one in their 250 gallon tanks! Gigas have a bad reputation for switching tanks when they grow large.

Please tell me I'm wrong, and that's like a 300 gallon tank! :)

I think the problem with them switching tanks is the amount of light that they are given as they get bigger these guys require a tremendous amount of light. The waikiki aquarium keeps them with natural sunlight, which is a big part of ther sucess.
How big is that clam anyway?

my theory on moving big clams is it's the weight of all that unsupported flesh collapsing on itself when you pull them out of the water.

I think is wonderful that you have a great gigas, you must be doing something great!!

I agree with Matty on the weigh of the animal i am sure they would fair a lot better if moved in a large container of water.

If I remember correctly, that tank is at the Smithsonian aquarium. It's one of Dr. Adey's tanks, which runs on an ATS (Algae Turf Scrubber). Pics of it are also in his book, Dynamic Aquaria. That clam was actually pretty small when it was put in the system, and has grown substantially in the tank.

I bet the clam is outcompeting the ATS for nutrients. Gimme a couple more of those and I wont even have to consider the zeovit system. Call it the new thing, a foot of clam for X gallons of water. Also, the thing about a clam that grows that large is that it leaves you with immense valuable Shells when it dies. A parting gift.
