this silicone ok to use?

As long as it is GE 1 and not GE 2 it is perfectly fine and has been used by aquarists for decades. I have a 10 yo 93g I built with it and it is still solid as can be.

It is fine for things like sump baffles, but even though it has been used successfully to reseal tanks, there are better options out there for that.

"Aquarium Safe" silicon

"Aquarium Safe" silicon

Risking starting a flame war on this issue... I felt strongly enough to add my two cents. There's a lot of banter on the forums about SAFE silicones. I know, I spent a few days research it when the need came to reseal my 75 gallon. Long story short, I went to the source, GE, to inquire about the "Marine Life" safety of their product. As I recall, (it's been a while) they do not produce any product that is designed specifically for the marine or aquarium environment. The issue was that of a mildewcide that is added to their products. The concerns they had were not just during the curing, but the long term exposure in an aquatic or marine setting and the ability to it leach out. This risk can occur anywhere the silicone can make contact with the water, as in using it for securing baffles in a sump as well as anywhere in the main tank. The manufacturers will tend to take a very conservative stance. BOTTOM LINE: My sealant of choice was the Perfecto/Marineland Silicone Aquarium Sealant 10.3 oz Caulking Cartridge. Widely available at around $10 a tube, why would you risk potentially hundreds (thousands even) of dollars worth of your prize critters to anything less than a true marine safe product?? Marineland stated that there were no additives to endanger fresh or saltwater animals. Just my two cents...

it doesn't say it has a mildewcide in it but it does says its mold and mildew resistant. that raised a red flag for me.

I like how Old Salt Crust signs up to make a statement that he declares he's not trying to start a flame war and not accurately providing the correct information considering there are multiple versions of GE's silicon with his assumption that his statement applies to all GE silicon product. Mind you... it's his first post. Ha. What a joke.

Interesting read. Lots of debate on "safe silicone" how bout 2 part epoxies that we use for our live rock? I would think the epoxy is by far more toxic than that of silicone and we all use it with no ill effects.

Well I can say do NOT use the aquarium safe silicone in a toothpaste like tube as it's darn hard to squeeze out by hand as my silicone started curing as it took so long for me to squeeze it out. I would definitely use GE non mildew silicone with a calk gun next time.
