Thompsons Tang Help

Great question and great choice of tang. This particular fish is one of the least aggressive of the Acanthurus genus and will often times be seen in groups in large aquariums. They are mostly planktivoric and are considered open water surgeonfish which is a big reason you do not see them on the market too often. They are found from Hawaii to Indo and are actually named after John W. Thompson who worked for the Bishop Museum in Hawaii.

It is a great aquarium fish once established in larger tanks and is very reef safe. Hope that helps.

No it would need something a bit larger than that. We recommend that all tang species go into a minimum of 75 gallons to feel comfortable. These larger Acanthurus species really need bigger tanks than that even. With a 60 cube, your best bet is to stick with fish that reach a maximum size of 4 or 5 inches for best results.

Hope that helps.
