Those little clear mollusk flatworms

Do they kill snails or just feed off of them? I just lost a large turbo, and while I was taking it out off the tank, I noticed one come off of it. Since my large snail is gone, should the flatworm/worms just die off? They can't fit into the shells of Nassarius, can they?

They still may "wrap up" your snails and kill them, that is their typical feeding method. I don't know if they anaesthetize them with some chemical or smother them, but they are effective at it, whichever method they use. Leslie can probably give us the specifics?

It's more a question of whether the Nassarius can fit into the flatworm. :) The mollusc-eaters go about it in a couple of different ways. Some swallow the snails whole, digest the meat, then spit out the empty shell. Others are thin enough to crawl into a clam, these evert their feeding organs, liquidify the clam & suck up the resulting soup.

If the flatworm you noticed came off the shell it might not have been responsible for the snail's death, just investigating the remains. You said yours was little and clear. The mollusc-predators that show up in tanks are large & usually brown with white spots or white with brown lines. See http://www.melevsreef.com/id/flatworm.html (one on the right) and http://home2.pacific.net.ph/~sweetyummy42/hitchworms.html (top two on the left). I don't know if the mollusc-eaters will only eat molluscs and starve if there are none or if they can go after other organisms as well. Probably some species fall into each feeding category.
