Thought I'd introduce myself

NikonGuy

I've been lurking around here for quite some time and admiring alot of the photographers work here. I myself aren't too huge of a reef hobbyist yet to explore this forum, but I do love photography. I specialize in photojournalism and landscape with a bit of weddings on the side for friends here and there. I've been seeing a wealth of aquarium shots lately and was inspired to try it myself. Its a wonderful world to explore and I'm enjoying the challenges of shooting fish and corals. Just letting you know that I'll be around.

Nice opening shot. :)

What Marc said. Always nice to have another Nikon guy here!!!!

:D

Picture was taken with my backup camera, nikon d700. I usually shoot with my D3 and even though my username is nikonguy, I also spend alot of time with my 1ds markIII. Though to be quite honest, I also get alot of "so what do you shoot with or what camera do you use?" question pretty often... it really doesnt matter considering these images could still be achieved while utilizing even a canon rebel xti or nikon d40 with decent glass.

EXIF INFO:
D700
No-FLASH
nikkor 24-70mm - 70mm
F/8
1/80
ISO 1600
WB 10,000K
EV -1.0
RAW file uncompressed
HANDHELD (though I do reccommend using a tripod)

If you aren't going to commit to Nikon, we need to change your username to something more ambivalent. :D

I'm shooting with a Nikon D70s now, but have been a Fuji guy for years.

Wow, a d700 for a backup. . .nice! I'm looking to get a d700 soon to replace a d80 that I jumped the gun buying. I bought a nikkor 70-200vr recently and love it. I want the d700 for the FX format.

Oh dont worry Melev... I'm definitely ont he "dark side" lol, but on a more serious note... I'd wait on buying a camera for a few months Jerrym21 as there's going to be many toys and glasses to come soon. If you enjoy the 70-200 then wait until you get a full-frame with the 24-70mm 2.8 as a zoom and 85mm 1.4 for your prime. Only problem with glass is that there's so many fantastic versatile ones, ya going to have a hard time sticking to just a few.

Welcome and a very nice shot. Hopefully this will pull you in deeper to our addiction, I mean hobby. :D

Do you know if the d700 and 70-200,2.8 work well togather? I've read where some say it's great and others say it does not work well on the d700. Thats the trouble with reading reviews on the net. . .whatever one person says, you will find someone that has the opposite opinion. As it stands right now, I don't personally know anyone with this combo that can give me an opinion.
Anyway, I guess I'll need to take the lens to a camera shop and try it on a d700 myself.

That's also the problem, certain D700s get vignetting while others like mine do not. You really wing it with the 70-200, but from what I know... 7/10 dont have the vignetting problem and its also "very minor". We've done many tests to find if it was the lenses or the body and came to a conclusion that the body was the problem. So keep those glass in good shape.
